Nope.
I had never heard that before either.
However, if you have all the know how, and equiptment you said you have, try it out for yourself.

I guarantee you they would not mix a CD for a non-flat speaker

Based upon what?
Speakers are not flat anyway.

Glen,

when measuring frequency response and and power you have to take into account the SPL at which you are measuring.

you always want the flattest response you can get at the desired SPL.

And do remember that the ears sensitivity to frequency changes with SPL.

Yep - I know.

No.
I thought that also.
When I set my speakers up and measured them as flat - it was terrible.
I had to make a few phone calls to find out why.

well then maybe you were listening to low levels and needed a bass boost?

Similar to the "loudness" button?

Or possibly you had crappy recordings?

all kinds of things could have been going on. I don't think the ears sensitivity flattens out until over 90 db. but it's been a while since I've looked at the graph. Also peoples' ears are different, you may not be as sensitive to low frequencies?

Not a knock on you, just a thought.

OK, so I'm trying to see how to adjust a system for glenn's spec w/my Alpine CDA-9855's built-in EQ. ...
I think you are misunderstandign something.
You have to have a device with a microphone that listens to your system before you can know how to EQ it. ...

Ahh. That makes sense now that I think about it (and am sober); no 2 cars / speakers are going to have the same acoustic properties. Honestly, most of my audio 'skills' is in selecting components for quality and performing the physical installation, not the final sound adjustments. Fortunately, my uncle has all that equipment (he repairs instruments & amps & such). I'll have to get him up here to help me out. Thanks!
