error #1 - if anyone ever asks you to search anything without a warrant tell them to suck it.

okay, as per adcive of forums members I'm going to stop posting in this topic. However, I AM going to clear a few things up first:

1) I can't ****** afford a lawer.
2) I DID get my music back, I had a backup
3) NoShangriLa: you are awesome for posting that link.

if you really want to ask me something you can msg me and i'll reply at my discrtion. I will still read this topic if it stays around.

If after all this, you are still concerned about getting your MUSIC back, I call SHENS on this story.

seems like a legitimate thing to clarify IMO

dude how old are you? middle school? high school? letting them search you stuff was a bad idea. What kind of excuse is "oh you're good with computers, you must have done it" that's complete BS.

go to your nearest respectable law school and ask if they have a legal clinic and if the legal clinic would take your case.

good call. it's safe to assume that if none of them had the ability to set up servers and switches, or how to trace an email, then they wouldn't be able to legitimately qualify music as being illegally downloaded or ripped from a CD that you own. (Of course...it would help that you also have tons of CDs...)

Of course any decent lawyer will tell you to STOP talking and helping them. They are going to use the music on your computer against you now. The school will say we did not find the note but did find very illegal items and activity on his computer. Mind you they will not say you D/L a song, just they say illegal activity. This is why even innocent people do not help the police. It?s a fish hunt. Kinda like how Ken Starr went after Clintons BJ after he could not find anything illegal after millions of dollars spent looking.

Have your dad ask on who authority they took his computer. If they say your then have him file a compliant with the police against them and the school system. This is of course if you are under 18 (i.e. not a legal adult) and have no ownership claims on where the computers were and the computers themselves.

Now if you do know/have something to do with this at all. Then just shut-up and don?t do anything else.

The music is of no consequence. First of all the search was not done with a warrant specifying what they expected to find. Second, even if they had a warrant to look for something specific, anything else they find at that time, illegal or not, is not admissible in any way.

Shens. What high school (or middle school?) lets a student design and implement the school's computer network? What school didn't have computers by the time this guy got into school?

My High Schools network was designed by Our IT teacher and few students from the IT class. Our IT class built the computers for the whole school (for all teachers and computer lab).
