I was an RA for three years at my University, and if I remember correctly the RA keeps track of who checks in on move-in day. So they're going to know by the end of the week that you have the extra bed available when your roommate never shows up.

The extra set of room keys left over will also tip them off.

I had a triple turn into a double after a semester. They kept telling us we would get a new roommate but we never did. I wanted to get rid of the bottom bunk on my side and put in a couch but the RA said that was somehow destroying university property and there really wasnt anywhere to put the extra mattress/frame. But either way, just be glad you don't have a triple.

... And you asked the RA... why?

Surely it's possible to.. say, flip up the mattress and frame against the wall and sit the couch up against it.

The only hard part would be sneaking in a couch. But it can be done - just as people who aren't allowed to build lofts somehow manage to sneak in 2x4's.

My first year in the dorms, my roommate moved out after 3 weeks. So I got the room to myself for the rest of the semester. I left the other half alone for a while but after a few weeks, I moved the beds and desks together and had my gf move in . Over winter break I got a guy, that moved out the same day, became a frat boy. So I thought I lucked out, but noped... I got a guy that had been kicked out of his old room because he threatened to kill his roommate. He would always go through my crap and he would even wear my shower flip-flops. It sucked. Luckly that semester my gf became roommateless so I stayed with her most of the time.

my freshman roommate in college dropped out of school after 3 months (too many computer games, shrooms, all that crap - great kid though, we had a blast) and I ended up getting a double to myself for the remainder of the two semesters. i got so used to having a single that there was no way in hell i would be able to put up with a roommate, so by sophomore year i had moved off campus and into a graduate living suite.


but in your specific circumstances, i'd put money on you getting a new roommate within 2 weeks. Not necessarily whiny though, so you're in luck.
