Yes, several people did come up with that conclusion. Exactly as you phrased it? No, because we weren't thinking originally that this was a game (read: troll post) for your amusement and ego.

Next time be less vague if you don't want "whining". Or just don't post.

I spent a week in LA county jail. Not cool. Luckily, they had liquid soap next to the shower heads so that was a relief. They didn't have the bar kind.

Why was I in jail, you may be wondering? Back when I was 18 I was caught using bottle rockets and fined by the cops. I never got the notice to appear in court, so I thought sweet! They must have made a mistake. I didn't even know I had a warrant for my arrest until I was pulled over last year. I went to jail right there and then. It was not pleasant man. I had to join a gang for protection and was almost beat to a bloody pulp by a big black guy for using "their" phone. Apparently, there are 6 phones and each set are only to be used by certain racial group. Luckily my gang leader intervened and told him I was new. They have all sort of rules... make sure you obey them at all costs. If you need some advice, let me know.

EDIT: My lawyer told me I have the record in the California for having paid the most for such a ridiculous crime. I don't know if I should be proud of that.

So by joining a gang for protection, what did you offer in return? How did that work?

When you get to the transfer room (a big room, houses probably a hundred + people), there is a room leader that announces the rules. He tells you that you must join a gang based on your race. I simply went to the spot where "my gang" was located and slept near that section. The gang leader tells you the more specific rules. For example, I couldn't take a shower if there was an Asian or a Black guy already there. The Hispanic and White inmates seem to have an alliance. An Armenian guy got beat up because he didn't clean the sink after shaving. I would say following the rules is the most important thing.

For the record, there was no raping of any kind. Nothing bad happened to me, but the overall experience was traumatic in and of itself.

I dunno if you are serious, but either way that was an interesting read. Any other 'stories'?

yes, I am serious. The most fucked up part is when you first get there.

They take you into a large concrete room and they pack you like sardines with every degenerate known to man. There is no AC so the BO is the worst ever. You have guys there who haven't showered in weeks, possibly months and you are rubbing shoulder to shoulder. I was next to a shirtless black guy who looked like he had fresh stab wounds. In the middle of the room's floor there is a drain. There is shit and puke circling that drain. When the deputies get there they scream and curse at you. They tell you not to make eye contact with them or you are not going to like what's going to happen to you. They told us to take off any kind of laces we had on. Some young kid thought he was tough and wasn't obeying the deputes, so they took him (where I don't know) and as a lesson to us all, they made us wait in that room for an hour longer. I thought I was going to pass out from the BO and heat. Some fat guy passed on top of the drain and the medics had to remove him. Then came the body searches. Luckily, they don't look up people's asses anymore. They just pat you down.

That sounds like fun. Can I get college credit for that class?

I'm going to assume Mill is going to prison because he was convicted of raping his father until I find out otherwise.

That's not valid proof. I'm still under the assumption that you raped your father, got caught and went to prison for it.

Believe what you want. Amazing that people would want to get so personal over a thread on the Internet.

So when you say prison I'm assuming you mean jail right?

Cause technically speaking prison is long term, anything over 7 years, at least that was the case when I used to work at a large sheriff's dept many years ago...

Jail = Less than one year;
Prison = One year or more.

I just want to make sure at least one person referenced Federal Pound me in the Ass Penitentiary in this thread. It probably already happened, but I don't feel like reading the whole fail thread, so here it is to make sure.

It is "indeterminate" because we have no idea how long it will last. It may be 2 hours or it may be 4 or 5. It really depends on how the prison is that day and the attitude of the inmates. I didn't want to reveal the name for security reasons, and that remains the truth.

For all the whiners... I do plan to update the thread with my experiences. It is pretty rare to allow independent parties to go into a violent prison (it is one of the worst in the Southeast) and actually have contact and interact with inmates. This will partially give things away, but we are going to Death Row as well (Alabama has two). I won't reveal more than that for security, and I probably should not have even said that much.

I think you all will get your money's worth when I update with the experience. It is supposed to be pretty insane.

Glad you're not doing time. I do question the purpose of your class however, spending a few hours at the prison will teach you nothing except it's a depressing place and you already know that.

The end result will be that you either view it as a "fun" field trip or, identify with the inmates and, in both cases, you will not understand the depravity of the U.S. prison system. It's one virtue is that the violence is generally constrained to the inmates and not initiated by the guards as in many other countries.
