Woopty fuckin woo, I've been to two prisons in CA. I used to work for corrections and we had boxes of medical files stored at the facilities that we would have to pull from. Scary places, but as long as you're respectful, it's no big deal.

Or taught rapists and serial killers modern literature and creative writing. . .

My cellmate was in for murdering his wife. He got taken advantage of a few times, mainly for his tax advice, but sometimes for carnal reasons. Everyday at lunch time, he would drop dirt out of his pants leg. I had no idea where all the dirt came from, but I distracted the guards and covered for him. One day he didn't wake up when the guards yelled his name for role call. The warden showed up and found a hole behind a poster on his wall. He had dug a tunnel and broken into the sewer. Andy crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness I can't even imagine. Or maybe I just don't want to. Five hundred yards. The length of five football fields. Just shy of half a mile.

It is "indeterminate" because we have no idea how long it will last. It may be 2 hours or it may be 4 or 5. It really depends on how the prison is that day and the attitude of the inmates. I didn't want to reveal the name for security reasons, and that remains the truth.

For all the whiners... I do plan to update the thread with my experiences. It is pretty rare to allow independent parties to go into a violent prison (it is one of the worst in the Southeast) and actually have contact and interact with inmates. This will partially give things away, but we are going to Death Row as well (Alabama has two). I won't reveal more than that for security, and I probably should not have even said that much.

I think you all will get your money's worth when I update with the experience. It is supposed to be pretty insane.

Holman Lockdown. Good show.

I was gonna say going to prison for an indetermined time for a crime I didn't do just would not fucking happen.

EDIT: Guy that I know went to FPMITA prison for a year for ripping off some government program. He said hygeine is very important inside. Everyone expects you do be clean and you will be shunned and can face punishment from other inmates if you were percieved as having poor hygeine. This means showering daily and after working out. This coincides with the experience with the hair left in the sink someone else posted. And he also said you must get a job, be low profile, stick with your group and learn to work the system. For him (he is a vegetarian) he was able to get extra vegatables and fruits etc by trading his meats etc.. this angle earned him points with other inmates.

thats all well and good, but how many convenience store owners do you think are in jail? for it to be a legitimate gang, there needs to be enough people in it. you know, they say you can do anything you want in america...but i think i may not be allowed to follow my dream and end up in jail because of my ethnicity.

You have several choices:

CSR's from India that pretend to be Americans with names like Joe and Lora, yet with heavy accents.

Interstate motels operators.

C-stores operators..."thank you, come again"

there are prolly like a handful of them in prison all across the US. I need a full fledged gang.

Darthvoy -- Thanks for sharing your stories. That must have really sucked. Were you with guys who had long-term sentences? Did they act any differently than guys with shorter sentences? Thanks again!

For the first five days I was with the non-violent offenders. The last two, however, I was with the general population in the transfer room I mentioned earlier. That was when I was the most scared because you had row after row of bunk beds and you were in there with guys had committed rape and murder. At least in the cell you knew you were safe. During my time in the transfer room I could not sleep at all. I mindfucked myself because I was scared and I though it showed. I thought someone was going to see that I was scared and think I was vulnerable. I didn't want to fall asleep because I thought I was going to get stabbed. After the transfer room they assign you your permanent cell.

Some interesting observations I made while in the transfer room:

People are working out constantly. They used whatever they could find to exercise. I saw one guy use balled up clothes as a barbell. That thing look like it weighed quite a bit. That guy was ripped.

You are allowed to have an "account" with the prison. Friends and family members deposit money into your account and there is a list of food stuff you can buy, but at very expensive prices. On the bunk next to me I saw one guy mix chettos, tuna, ramen noodles, hot dogs, and other things that I don't remember in a large black trash bag. There was a sink in there that dispensed boiling water so they would use that to cook their food.

As far my observation of the long-term vs. short-term inmantes, you can tell right away who the long-term inmates are. They carry themselves with a lot of arrogance/confidence and a "I don't give a fuck" mentally. You know not to mess with them because they have nothing to lose and they will kill you and not care.

The gang I had to join was just a general protection gang. If you want to get into a more specific gang such as the Mexican Mafia or the Aryan's you have to do something to prove yourself. It usually involves killing someone. So yes, it was more like I wore a name-tag. It did give me a bit of comfort because I knew someone had my back if I were to get jumped.

He is talking about the one in LA, I just checked his profile.

Basically in county it is called a "car" instead of a gang. Yes there are street gangs in there, but I can tell you that LA county is similar to Orange County, where these are the basic cars:

Peckerwoods: Whites

Sorrenos - Southern Mexicans. These are the "thug" looking gangster mexicans

Pisas - These are the very dark skinned Mexicans that can barely speak english

Blacks

Before I even got settled my bunk at the Theo Lacy Facility, the shot-caller for the Woods came up and shook my hand. The first question is "where you from", as in "what gang are you from." He gives you your kit with a quarter piece of bar soap, etc. He goes over the rules, explaining what toilets the whites are allowed to shit in, etc.

Not a fun place.

I just re-read your post and you were in county jail 7 days and you joined a gang. You might of fooled these guys but you can't fool me. You know nothing of doing time. I heard guys talking I have X years left and your talking about the first five days then the last two. I spent a year in county jail and 8 months in a Texas prison and I was a short timer. What a joke.

Well I was in a cell( I forget what we called them they were big rooms that had bunks with like 25 guys to each section) there was a black guy everyone called Bubba. He was picking fights with everyone kicking peoples asses. One day he just figured he had it in for me so he started fucking with me. Then one day I walked past him and he said "I'm gonna let you make it until after Christmas". I was tired of his shit so I turned and said "What are you waiting for?" I got knocked clean out and hit my head against the concrete. My head hurt so bad I could barely sleep that night. Well I figured that was that he had kicked my ass so he will leave me alone now. I was wrong. One night I saw Bubba talking to a group of guys and they were looking at me. I knew something was up. He came and asked if he could have some of my food. I said no if I would of agreed he would of just kept eating my soups and shit. Then he said "I'll just take them". He then proceeded to open my bunk drawer and taking shit. I had no choice but to fight him again. Well he kicked my ass again and then his friend came and was wanting to fight me next. I fought his friend until some guys finally broke us up. I think I got the better of that exchange. Eventually if you get caught breaking the rules enough they send all the worst inmates to a pod together. It was F4-D. Each pod was labeled a certain way and that is the only name I can remember. You always saw guys getting taken out on stretchers from F4D when you looked out at it when we were at rec or the guards getting all geared up in swat team stuff heading in there pretty often. Put it this way that was the last place you want to be. Instead of full meals on a tray they will put it in a blender and bake it and serve it to you in F4D. It was a food loaf. Well Bubba eventually got sent to F4D and he met his match. From the talk around the prison there was a bad ass black dude that went one by one going through the whole dorm on different days and fight each person in there. He would just tap on your bunk and they knew it was their turn to fight him. I heard Bubba ended up fighting the guy and he was care flighted out. I hope I described it all ok for you guys.

Having never been to an actual "prison", I know that the conditions in those places are much worse. I'm only telling my experience, such as it was. My experience alone was traumatic...enough to never do anything remotely that will make me go back there.

Evan, as a moderator, for many many years I tried to help make you a better person, hence banning your ass probably more times than any other member. I did it for your own good. Now you're going to prison. I have failed.
