PvP if you like getting ganked endlessly while questing.
PvE if you just want to play in peace and PvP on your own terms.
RP if you want to avoid some of the juvenile behavior, at the expense of running into some freakish RP behavior.

I like my PvE server, but sometimes I wish I rolled on a PvP one. Then I look at some the posts on the PvP servers' message boards and kick myself in the nuts really hard. I'm on the Shadowsong PvE server (Pacific Time Zone - 2 hours behind my actual time, which lets me play late nights and still see plenty of people online.) We just had the hardware upgrade, so our server seems pretty stable and relatively lag-free lately.

I love my 60 Hunter, but I've decided to seriously work on an alt. You could be my 3rd guild member!

PvP if you want to be ganked the entire time and listen to an AOL chat room in every chat.
PvE if you want to be bored out of your skull and listen to an AOL chat room in chat (but only in The Barrens and the Alliance starting zones).
RP if you want to be annoyed by 10-year olds griefing the RPers in the chat and /yell.
PvP-RP if you want to play on a server where you are the only one without 2 level 60 alts in full BWL gear (or whatever is the new raidfest is).

I was an avid Diablo 2 player a while back...and most of my characters were meant for PvP or Pk you might say. It was a fun game until...the whites, iths and hexes BS starting to come out. But i'm not sure whether to go to pvp..or pve

I'm on Khadgar right now, a 36 human warrior. A couple of my friends in real life play there, but they're elite 60s. I don't have the strength to get up to 60, so I just play casually. It's a fun server... as of late, hasn't been down very often. You may want to go Horde though, it's a lot better.

First suggestion, DO NOT INSTALL IT IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE!!

Second suggestion, get CT-Mod, it's a must have UI mod for wow.

Seriously once you use CT-Mod you'd kill yourself before going back to the standard crappy UI.

Hmm...how should i put this...

WoW...is a canned experience. It is a massive multiplayer game, but it definitely has little role-playing elements.

From someone who has played for about a year, my advice is to drop it and try something else. WoW kills brain cells and time. It provides short amusements very well, but nothing lasting. You will leave from it with nothing.

My advice, play out what time you have left then be happy that you were able to leave.

You should stay away. You'll most likely get hooked and end up pre-ordering the expansion pack. I tried to play it but it's too much of a time sink to enjoy it. The quests are horrible too. Go get 10 of these, 10 of those, and when you level up a bit you get to go get 20 of these, 20 of those, collect the five peices, etc. etc. The instances are awful too. There is nothing as fun as being commited to a 2+ hour instance when it might have taken you 30+ minutes to find a group in the first place. And don't give me that crap about being in a guild to get group benefits, that's even worse because now they expect you to participate in the instances whenever you're on and they need you. The player base is terrible too, and my experiences were on a RP server(started on PvE and RpPvP too). Normal people were few and far between. You either delt with morons on alternates screwing up your game, or dolts who thought RP'ing meant talking like you were the King of England. The few good players I found and grouped with played the game a lot more than I did. I was still in my low twenties when they were reaching their mid thirties. I ended up uninstalling it about a week before my free month was up.

Just cut your losses and get rid of it.

You had your chance! BDF is great... Who are you on Shadowsong?

PvP servers are fun if you can have a lighthearted spirit about getting ganked, occassionaly camped, and having to leave your questing area to head elsewhere. If you're a short-fuse, you probably wouldn't like a PvP server. That said, killing the horde that's about to take your [mine/herb/etc] can be quite satisfying and having to always be "on your toes" makes for a more exciting game.

As far as class - play whatever you enjoy most, they all bring unique talents to the raids and theyre all useful.

Go mod-free for the first 10 or 20 levels to get a good understanding of the game, then if you feel inclined check out mods, make macros, scripting, etc. Theres so much there that if you try to check it all out you'll spend more time tweaking the game then playing it, and there arent really any mods I'd deem necessity until the late/end game.

WoW can be played casually, I think a lot of gamers just have very little self-control and a very competitive nature that makes them play 8 hours a day.

I would agree, go mod free at first so you get the idea of the game mechanics, then download insomniax UI from curse-gaming.com and wonder why blizzards UI sucks so much..

i still can belive i'm playing this damn game again after taking 7 months off... now i have 2 60's: human pally and undead mage

Seriously. The best choice I've ever made.

If you are determined to try it go PvP. I couldn't imagine playing WoW on a non-pvp server.
