So I'm taking the SATs on Saturday for the first time...

Definitely need some tips. I have a good vocabulary and English is my strong point but my math is on the lower side. Any websites? (Yay, after the test I have a Mindless Self Indulgence concert )

I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you're strong in either math or english. The math section is pretty basic anyway. At this point it's a little late for studying.

What, you think you're going to learn in a week what you failed to learn in the last 17 years? Screw the prep and study courses. Friday night get stinking drunk so that on Saturday you have a near fatal hangover. If your head is pounding hard enough you'll concentrate on that rather than the pressure and you won't choke. That method worked for me.

Get massively drunk the night before. Show up an hour late. That's best advice anyone could give you.

If you can eliminate one wrong answer, go ahead and guess even if you don't know it.

bring a snack
go to bed at a decent time, give yourself plenty of time to get there, make sure you know where 'there' is.
Lay out pencil/calculator/ticket the night before
don't cram

take some practice exams, learn to pace yourself well, learn how many questions/time you have for each section

try to eliminate as many choices as possible and if you don't know, skip it.

How are the ACTs easier?

If you get done with like 20 minutes, don't just stare at the ceiling like I did. Go back over stuff.

True, I remember I used to take at least 2 practice tests a day.. Well, I decided to study in US less than 6 months before sending my first application, so I was kinda in a hurry.. It still helped me alot... There was a book called 10 Real SATs, it helped me a lot until I solved all the tests around 5 times (each) and I memorized the questions .. Math part need some timing, try finishing verbal part fast and spend more time on math section, it's not that hard afterall..

If this isnt your last test dont sweat it too much.

The verbal section of the SAT's for me wasnt really about knowing the vocab but being able to 'see' the answer. I probaly know the least vocab but i did decently. Practice tests are your friend.

I'm taking it for the last time this december... gah.


Oh play lots of video games and look up a word when you dont know it. Playing starcraft helped me learn words zealot and arbitor. Just dont play too much the day before the test. D:

For math, don't worry about conventional math. All the math you need on SAT I you learned in algebra and geometry. Worry about the tricks that put a new twist on the math questions and make you think...
