So I've got kittens

I picked up a stray cat in December, planing to feed her and give her a warm place to stay just for the night. Turns out she was very pregnant, so a few weeks later seven kittens popped out of her vagina. Now I've got the task of finding them all homes. What does one do in this situation?

Some vets office have boards you can post on to try to find them homes. Try that? Also, newspaper or local radio ad.

I'd keep mom, and one kitten, and give the rest away. I could possibly be convinced to keep two kittens if there were a couple that had exceptional personalities.

You might try going to Pet Finder and doing a search on cats for your area. That should provide you with a list of cat rescue places nearby. Contact the rescues and see if they would take some/all of them.

OMG kittens are so cute. It never gets old to see pics of some. Keep one or two then sell/give the rest. Just be sure they go to a good home, and not some crazy guy who has a pet python or a microwave fetish... sadly it happens.

Or if you can't find a home, drive over to North Shore Animal League in Long Island. They might be able to help you.

I was in the same exact situation 1.5 years ago.

Kittens can be adopted safely at 8 weeks of age. I'd post around on Facebook first and/or try to give them to anyone closeby.

Be careful with Craigslist (if you care about the kittens welfare). Be sure to put at least a $20 price tag. If you place them for free/low cost, you'll attract the snake owners looking for cheap gourmet.

Wow, can't believe nobody has mentioned spaying/neutering those kittens before adopting them out. And the mom, too. Anything less and you are just contributing to the cycle of unwanted cats.

Get them fixed and charge the cost as a re-homing fee.

Vets are charging $400 for that. I can't do it out of pocket, so I'm entrusting it to the adopters.
