Good idea putting them on Craigslist so dogfighters etc can adopt and abuse them. I would never list any animal on Craigslist.

Yeah, I've gotten about ten responses so far and half of them seem like crazies. I'm definitely charging an adoption fee.

I wanted to do word of mouth, but that hasn't gotten very far. These little guys are sucking up a pound of food a day and generating at least as much waste.

We had that situation once but the mother was only a year old at most and had 3 kittens. We ended up keeping all 3, 2 have since passed, the mother is now 19 or 20 and her remaining son turns 19 this July. They are cute so I really hope you find good homes for all of them, I didn't mean to come off harsh but Craigslist has a really bad rep with people that rescue abused animals.

Any luck asking on Reddit?

Also, vets may charge for spaying, but I wonder if you couldn't get a no kill shelter or humane society to do it for much much less?

see if you can talk to a cat adoption group - my parents recently handled a similar situation that way

Whatever you do, hurry up because it'll be a lot easier while they are in this stage of their lives.

I think they need to be spayed/neutered.

I hate to suggest it, but I think an animal shelter is the best bet. It's very rare that tame kittens don't get adopted and they will get fixed and the owners will be vetted.

Darn I am in California. Otherwise I would take two of the grey striped ones. (no gingers)

I don't even have a Reddit account. I wouldn't know how to proposition something like that.

Call around, ask for a group discount. Seriously.

I've been trying to with the low-cost services and it's no dice.

Is there anything like this in your area?

http://tobyproject.org/ is free for males. I've actually done it before but it's first come, first serve, which amounts to about 10 hours of waiting per cat. I'm considering it, but it isn't really feasible for me to do eight times.

Shelters are overcrowded as it is. I'd rather release them outside than do that.

I've got a cute lesbian couple coming over today to look at them. I've gotten a ton of responses from craigslist and they mostly seem like mouthbreathers, but I'm optimistic.

Spay/neutering can be done for much less than $400. Check with your local shelters. I think I paid $28 for my cat. The rest were adopted from a shelter already fixed for ~$50 each.

It would be better for those cats to all go to a shelter than it would be to adopt them out unaltered. They'll be fixed, vaccinated, have their health checked, and the new parents will be vetted for suitability. People who can't afford to pay the adoption fee for an altered cat at a shelter absolutely cannot be trusted to alter, or even take good care, of a cat on their own. It just won't happen.

Sending those cats out with the ability to reproduce is guaranteeing unwanted litter after litter after litter. It would be more merciful to put them all down now than to have to put down scores, maybe hundreds, later.

You need to spend some time volunteering at a shelter where cats have to be put down because nobody will adopt them.

Send those kittens to a shelter where they will at least have a chance to not spawn more unwanted cats. Kittens stand a very good chance to be adopted, it's the adult ones that get put down.

I called the Toby Projects Vet Mobile line and got a callback. They say you want to call the ASPCA at 877-SPAY-NYC.

They do the free/lowest cost spay and neutering around. They have all kinds of programs you might qualify for. If you are low income or on any kind of public assistance you can may be able to get it done for $5/animal.

If I wasn't broke (and I mean broke broke) I would send you $20 to help out.

Good luck.

dat calico. I own a calico. Sweetest cat I have ever known too bad her daughter (my wife took one of her babies) doesn't have the same disposition. She starts purring when I use her as a boa and she loves it when I throw her on my shoulder like a baby. Totally submissive. She's 15 years old now. Damn funny how time flies.
