So Jimmy Fallon is making late night talks shows funny again

I never found him to be even remotely funny as a host. Mostly just awkward. These videos certainly haven't changed my opinion. He's the least talented and least likable talk show host i can think of. I couldn't figure out how he got a job as a host in the first place... handing him the tonight show just blows my mind.

There is no other late night host that can do "history of rap" OR "evolution of hip hop dancing", to name a few. So I would highly disagree with the "least talented" angle.

He is certainly leaps and bounds better and more talented than Conan ^_^

You kidding me? This guy is funny as hell. I used to not like him on SNL but after watching him for a few years on his late night show his skits are what makes things hilarious. Obviously he's not going to appeal to everyone but that's why there are so many different hosts out there.

I don't think Fallon is the funniest, but I do think he's talented enough to host the Tonight Show. Some of his best late night moments IMO weren't necessarily funny yet still pretty cool to watch (History of Rap w/ Timberlake, Blurred Lines with kindergarten instruments w/ the Roots).

I also disagree on likability. I used to think he looked kinda douche-y, but after having watched Late Night and judging by his rapport with his guests, it seems like one of the main reasons he scored the gig because he is tremendously liked by his peers and folks in show biz (i.e., potential guests). Conan & Leno in contrast seem kind of prima donna-ish, and NBC probably went with Fallon as a "safe" choice to avoid that whole fiasco all over again.

yeah i used to not be a fan of fallon at all when he was on SNL. he just tried too hard. i've grown to like him though and he's doing a great job so far from what i've caught.

I'm probably an older stick in the mud. You gotta get with the times man. That doesn't mean you don't wish Justin Bieber gets stuck in one of those 6 pack plastic rings for a few months or anything.

Considering his entire comedy skill set, Fallon probably is more talented than Conan (Conan is purely a writer with a few physical bits that he can lean on. If he has anything over Fallon, I'd say he has a sharper wit).

Fallon is just a better overall host for a late night program. I wouldn't call him leaps and bounds better, but Fallon "fits the mold" better. In a way, I think NBC realized this when Conan went to the Tonight Show, and I dare say the comparison had something to do with that embarrassing ouster. Leno is a dick, obviously, but after watching more of Fallon in that slot, as that was all happening, I kinda think that something else was afoot beyond Leno simply being king ass.

Truthfully, he's as close in talent to Johnny Carson than any other host on the air right now. Carson could act, sing, do standup, and even played drums and a few other instruments...he was so well liked because he was a "showman". Showmen are rare in this day and age.

Fallon allows comedy to happen. (Occasionally 2 guests will go off on a tangent that's ROFL)

Due to his standup training, Leno always had to be in control, and wouldn't allow enough of those moments to happen.

Agreed; and 'awkward' is the perfect word to describe it. Granted I haven't watched him for a long time, so he may have gotten better, but when he first started it looked like he was always constipated and hoping not to say something wrong, reading off cards woodenly. The Roots were the only redeeming part of his show.

He did a series of short commercials with the local news anchors that were completely stupid. Oh look, he feel down; fake laughter galore. Please.

I think the best late show host is Craig Ferguson when he is with a guest; hands down better than Fallon, but his starting monologue with all the eighth-grade sexual innuendo is terrible.

I'll have to start DVRing his show. I used to watch conan religiously but grew tired of that same schtick over and over.
