So, lets talk about monitors.

When do you guys feel like you really need to upgrade your monitor other than when its dead/faulty.

Me personally i have a 27" 1440p 165hz GSync display (Acer predator) and i really dont see myself upgrade anywhere in the near future. The monitor technology seems to be pretty stagnant with nothing new on the horizon. I dont really feel like its worth upgrading to 4K cause of UI scaling issues in old games which i still play with my friends on weekends. I also do not see anything worthy of upgrade, maybe the upcoming microLED will be awesome and HDR is the new future but as of now they seem to be pretty meh and curved monitors are a pain to work with when you are designing stuff. I actually returned my 32" 4k display and bought this one instead cause the text in some game is so small that it started giving me headaches. I was actually looking forward to buy an OLED monitor before this but that thing never lived up to my expectations and was such a disappointment.

This kinda bothers me as i used to be on the look for the next best thing and look forward for it and i see nothing on this end. I see nothing worthy of upgrading.

So when do you guys usually feel like you really need to upgrade your monitor? What new technologies are you guys looking forward to?

I'm in the same boat as you as I have a 30" 1600p 60Hz Dell 3014, and I won't be replacing anytime soon.

@DeadlyTitan To answer your questions, I was looking at getting a 4K display but that would require me to go for 40" to 43" in size and replace my GTX 970 with a more powerful and expensive dGPU to play my current and future games.

I have the 1080p version of your display and it was a remarkable boost in image quality over my 2009 LCD. If you don't have thousands to burn on new hardware then I suggest you make peace with what you have.

How can OLED not live up to your expectations? Never seen anything so crystal clear and beautiful in the store. That's the next big thing in display tech.

I'm also using two 30" 1600p monitors. The 32" 4K monitors just have too many downsides. I wish someone would make 1600p monitors with higher refresh rates and *sync.

[Samsung PLS-IPS Vs LG AH-IPS Vs AUO AHVA-IPS (LCD LED IPS Panels)].TXT

Sampsung PLS-IPS Vs LG AH-IPS Vs AUO AHVA-IPS

Response: 5/8ms Response: 5ms Response: 3ms
Brighness: 350/420 cd/m2 Brighness: 350 cd/m2 Brighness: 350 cd/m2
Angle: 178/178 Angle: 178/178 Angle: 178/178

IPS panels are better then VA panels having terrible Gamma Color shifts and a 4.8ms response. IPS and VA are better then TN panel garbage considering TN panels are FAST with a 1ms response time with terrible gamma shift. If you have ever used IPS you will never go back to either VA or TN panels.

I also think it distracting to use a curved panel for anything less the 34"' display.

AUO AHVA panels have the fastest LCD IPS response time of 3ms with better contrast but less color where Samsung PLS-IPS and LG AH-IPS have better color. AUO AHVA-IPS are usually on ASUS and AH-IPS on LG panels.

The Samsung PLS-IPS panel is the brightest, Perfect Gama Shift and BEST colors for Photo Editing but has the slowest LCD response time of 6ms causing motion blur in gaming and the reason why Samsung have so far not planned any high refresh rate IPS displays.

AUO, AHVA is short for Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle and NOT to be confused with Vertical Alignment (VA) panels. AHVA is In-Plane Switching (IPS) and most suited for hi-refresh rate IPS panels because of it's fast 3ms LCD response time. LG AH-IPS panels with a slower 4.8ms response time is struggling to curtail motion blur at higher refresh rates for Gaming Displays

Samsung PLS-IPS 27" 2560x1440p 144Hz Gaming Monitors DO NOT Exist !

The QNIX 2710 PLS panel could be OC's to 120 Hz but it was cheat that skipped frames.

NOTE: The Prism M270EQ 27" 2560x1440p 60Hz PLS Display for $359.90 USD/$466.68 CAD,
Free Shipping + TAX 60.67 = $527.35 CAD with lots of options like PIP and remote is very
nice for a Samsung PLS-IPS 2K display.

However: The Mbest MB279QR144 QHD AUO AHVA at $493.98 CAD all included maybe the BEST
IPS 1440p Gaming Monitor and have a good enough RGB for descent Photo Editing.

I have a 60Hz QNIX 2710 Samsung PLS-IPS Panel for Photoshop if need be.

Text scaling on this forum is Horrid - Monitor Input LAG is something altogether different.

If your after a 32" 4K HDR 60Hz Display consider the QNIX UHD32R HDR HOT 3840 x 2160 UHD 6ms 60Hz AUO AHVA Panel sRGB 100% 32" Monitor for a fair price.

I have no experience with Quantum Dot or OLED 4K HDR Displays - Simply because I can't afford them nor can afford the equipment to run them ;o)

Presently on a 1080p RES Display so nothing scales properly.

PS: I have no problems playing 8k HDR on a QNIX PLS-2710 HDMI @ 1080p using an Intel I7 2700K IGP with a Z68 platform and surely will work at 1440p with a R9 290 or a GTX 1050.

Gotta love the old QNIX 2710 Samsung PLS 1440p 2K display even though it's only 60Hz with a slow 6 ms response and great 350 cd/m2 brightness.

The QNIX 2710 tends to burn out the power adapter for $30 and the a Mosfet voltage regulator on the PCB after some 5 years, for around a $100 repair which you can't replace today for under $700 here in Canada.

SO: Considering Samsung PLS-IPS is a 6ms response LCD Vs LG HA-IPS at 4.8 and AUO AHVA is 3ms all at 350cd/m2 brightness for you Gamer's that want to get into 27" 1440p 2K IPS screens.

Cheap VA an TN panels are NOT worth more then your gaming experience Vs every day experience if you want more outta your Monitor.

For Gaming I tend to lean toward the 27" QUO AHVA-IPS 3ms 350cd/m2 @ 1440p panel and still have enough left over to play 4K and 8k HDR flics and capable doing 99% RGB Photo Editing on a Flat Screen.

From what I understand Samsung Quantum Dot is a LCD VA panel limited by a 4.8ms LCD response time and illuminated by various patches of LED's that causes unreal colour in sections of view.

Give me Samsung's 60 Hz, 6ms response PLS-IPS 350 to 420 cd/m2 Brightness anytime for true colour but that AUO AHVA at 3ms 350cd/m2 at 144 Hz - Humm !

The LG HA-IPS panel is stuck in the middle - Can't deliver the LCD response time for Hi-Hz IPS compared to AUO AVHA-IPS nor compete with colour Vs Samsungs 60 Hz PLS-IPS Panels.

Samsung with Quatum Dot may have something going for IPS panels but not with VA for True Colour perhaps with PLS panels if they could speed up the LCD response time for Gamer's that want True Colour for PIC and Video Editing.

In my opinion a AUO AHVA-IPS 2560x1440p 2K, 144Hz panel with a 3ms response LCD and a 350cd/m2 LED brightness on a 27" Mat Flat Screen Display is about the best your going to get for your dollar that does not necessarily impair either Photo Editing or Gaming and it will play 4K and 8K HDR Flics at 1080p, 60Hz through an Intel IGP from Sandy Bridge forward.

Off course you will do 1440p with a Designated Graphics Card.

This is a fantastic all around 144 Hz IPS 2K 27" monitor for you Americans at $299.90 Free Shipping. It cost Canadians $505.26 - Don't believe that CDN price crap; however, still a good price for a performance Monitor for a Canadian and Dreamseller abides his customer service, That I know because I've bought all my monitors from him :

There is no way any IPS Display can beat Samsungs PLS-IPS at 60 to 75 Hz for shear color 2k or 4K but have to admit AOU's AHVA-IPS is FAST up to 165Hz but rather shady in comparison.

LG AH-IPS has a problem to compete. Other then you can not buy Samsung LPS-IPS displays as they are allotted to Cell Phones.

My recommendation for now is to buy an AOU AHVA-IPS 144Hz 27" 2K Display from Korea.

PIXIO (Japan on Order) or MBest (South Korea) Pixio is $100 more but it's options does not intrigue me.

Compared to all the Displays I've tested my favorite is the QNIX 2510. She's not incredibly fast but at rendering 8K at 2560x1440p is astounding with the BEST COLOR.
