Don't you notice how overclockability actually sells units? There is a reason manufacturers sell chips with and without unlocked multipliers...
Um no. crazySOB297 touched on it. Assume that oveclocking was illegal/impossible/etc. People are going to buy the speed of Cpu that they want instead of gong with a lower priced chip and then betting on overcooking it, meaning more money.
If overclocking is so profitable, where are the modern day equivalents to the 300a, where the standard oc was 50% and was as fast as the top of the line chip at the time.
