I think Homebrew & PSN can live in harmony. Sony will figure how to weed out the cheaters and pirates. At least I hope so. I hate cheaters in games. Maybe they can use an anti-cheat thing like Valve uses.
can someone explain the 3.55 hack (getting the sony private keys) made in layman terms - or provide a link to a site that explains it. i was under the impression - sony was screwed with the ps3 forever. apparently they changed the keys in 3.56. not sure what is going on. thanks.

Then you're irrelevant. Find another thread to shit in.I already have.
So I wanted to see what all this was about so I went googling. Just a couple hours later I have custom firmware and a game manager which lets you backup your discs onto drives. It works and was pretty stupidly easy. If I wanted to spend a couple more hours I'd be able to get PSN access even though I'm currently using outdated fw.
The only thing I see stopping even more rampant piracy is that the backups are obviously massive (18-25 gigs) which may deter those without much storage space or patience. Still, if you can get a hold of the disc just once then you can back it up fairly quickly. Not good news for us as it will probably bring worse DRM or keys. What's worse is that it looks like PSN games are also being copied somehow, but since they're smaller games it'll be easier to get them. Very bad news for the smaller devs that make PSN and Live games.

18-25gb for games is pretty rare... most games are closer to 10gb and under.
Hmmm, guess you're right. I was just going off of the few I own and saw on the seedier parts of the net, which were PS3 exclusives and they were all massive. The non-exclusives seem to be much smaller which makes sense as they were also designed to fit on DVDs.
If I knew how to do it I would do it in a heartbeat. Just so I could back up the games that I physically own. Everyday when I get home I expect to hear my daughter say I lost or broke LBP2 or it doesnt work anymore.
I'm sure people with kids can understand where I am coming from. I wish I could install the games and still play online, that would be awesome but I dont think I can do that. Hell I dont even know how to mod my PS3 to start with so I can install my games LOL
if you know how to read, you can do this easily.
and i'm assuming you know how to read since you are on a forum
LOL, I only have a small flash drive it's 256mb I hope the files fit on it
good what? not being able to fully use hardware you own? screw that
anyway, files still available in servers in other countries. freeeeeedooom!
Oh yeah, I can fully use my hardware to... well, not play games, as the viability of the platform has been fucked by parasitic shit sacks stealing games under the guise of 'freedom'. You disgust me. D:
tough. sorry, but tough. oh, and it's been fucked by sony removing the other OS feature. that's what lead to this.
the box is open and the info is going nowhere.
