I hope there is truth in this and not just a bold statement by Sony to try and scare people.
I had to do a user agreement also. It seemed pretty standard, maybe they updated the PSN agreement a little? It didn't seem like a warning message.I had to do some user agreement today that I've never seen before. Wouldn't let me sign in.
I believe I stated that this was going to happen.
Hackers can now change their console ID, and effectively ban other people.
Assuming that Sony cross-references against IP at minimum, I don't think that this is a problem for legitimate users. It's pretty obvious if a console suddenly changes location coincident with suspicious behavior.Hackers can now change their console ID, and effectively ban other people.

What happens when someone is getting console IDs from new ones in the store? What happens when someone comes up with a generator? Dynamic IPs are the norm in the home setting.
Sony lost this round, they can't ban consoles permanently if they are not 100% sure they are hacked.
didn't MS ban modded 360 that turned out to be not modded at all?
dont' have my ps3 here with me but isn't the console id different from the serial number.
I know for the 360 they are not the same. Its not even on the box or in the window.
going with that line of thought unless someone comes up with a generator its not possible just walk into stores that have the boxes out and copy down the a new one.
Why would the thread be locked? Wasn't that the whole point of the recent court case? That hacking/jailbreaking/rooting your electronic devices, while against TOS, is perfectly legal?
Does Sony register purchases at point-of-sale like Microsoft does? All of my Xbox 360s had purchase date filled in when I went to register them online.Buy and return.
Without HV, Linux and FreeBSD kernel hacking my life is meaningless.
