Just FYI: Sony has been sending out messages to "offending" ps3 accounts warning them to not use hacked firmware or their psn access is blocked. However, there have also been a large number of people who aren't hacked at all who also got the message. It sounds more and more like Sony can't nail down specific offenders and are trying to scare all into making sure their stuff is legit. If they start handing bans to the same people they sent messages to, they will be banning a number of legitimate users.

Now that is funny. A part of feels its messed up, that's just so over the line. Another is like that's what you get for being so stupid to willing give up your id to some stranger. But that's like part of something bigger and what i feel people getting dumber as we become more digital.

Assuming that Sony cross-references against IP at minimum, I don't think that this is a problem for legitimate users. It's pretty obvious if a console suddenly changes location coincident with suspicious behavior.

I've never heard of one getting banned that truly wasn't modded, just people lying and a few that were picked up from gamestops and such.

I know for the 360 they are not the same. Its not even on the box or in the window.

Why would the thread be locked? Wasn't that the whole point of the recent court case? That hacking/jailbreaking/rooting your electronic devices, while against TOS, is perfectly legal?

There are plenty of legal things that AT is not the place for.

There is also a little forgotten thing in today's world called ethics.

I am all for a hack that gives someone more use out of a device, but so many use these kinds of hacks to steal content/things.
