FUCK

This ticks me off.

I hate hackers so much, and pirates second

I don't necessarily mind it so much... I'd rather like it if it allows for something like a PS3 XBMC port. That'd make my life a million times easier when it comes to building HTPCs!

nothing annoys me more than hackers in online gaming (which this will no doubt lead to)

I can't stand it

It ruins the game for me

I with you. The part of this that bothers me the most isn't even the piracy angle, it's the security angle. Piracy is going to happen, and if anything, the PS3 is in a better position than the Wii or 360 still, given that game sizes tend to be prohibitive when it comes to downloading them. Regardless tho, people pirate the crap out of 360 titles and they still have great sales on big titles, and even on the Wii, 1st party Nintendo titles still sell really well.

If you have a credit card stored on PSN for purchases, you might want to pull it ASAP, this puts hacking PSN for personal user information at arm's reach. It also opens the door for hacked copies of online MP games that could be used to cheat and manipulate leaderboards. I don't play online MP much at all, but I do enjoy the leaderboards in games like PacMan CE DX, and I'd hate to see those screwed up because of this.

A lot of people seem to be blowing this off, or rejoicing in their new found ability to, let's be honest, play games for free on the PS3. Whatever, people who pirate games are the same people who, if they found a wallet in a church with a $10 bill in it would take the $10 and throw away the wallet instead of turning it in. Those types of people will justify anything to themselves, and apparently they all fit into the .0001% of PS3 owners that will actually do anything with homebrew other than install it to back up rental copies of Black Ops to their PS3. It's pretty pathetic to see people say things like "Well, maybe it's finally time to pick up a PS3!" just because the ability to steal is on the horizon.

Those people disgust me.

I had a PS3, I sold it because I could no longer use it for both games and linux. I'm looking to pick up a PS3 NOT for piracy, but for the option to use it as I always have, or to use it as a media device.

This is an excellent development, thumbs up to the hackers.... brilliant!

It will take all of 1 week before every game ever made for the PS3 will be posted online along with an ISO loader etc. I don't own a PS3, so it won't benefit me directly, but I love seeing arrogant sony with egg on their face. Even more so when the hackers started discussing all the stuff (badly coded stuff) they found when analyzing the internal workings of the security system.

Curious why the Sony hate? Sounds like you got a real bone to pick.

LOL seriously? This is your argument?

What is there to argue about?

Hacking online ruins all the fun. It breaks and mutilates the game. There is a reason hacking in frowned upon by almost the entire community. There is a reason hacking in many PC games will get you banned (unfortunately consoles suck at this kind of thing).

Take a game like Starcraft 2, for example. Let us say that I can use a maphack, without repercussions. What does this do? It gives me an unbelievable advantage and makes the game not even worth playing. Where is the challenge, the fun, the sport? It would be like playing football, but giving your team tanks.

I am tired of hacking in online console games, and was glad that I hadn't seen it on the PS3 yet. For example, on the Wii, Mario Kart is often nigh unplayable. The match will start, and one of the players will auto-spam infinite lightning clouds, rendering all players immobile indefinitely. Or they'll start of with 100 bombs dropped behind them and then continuously consume stars.

How is that any fun? How does that do anything but rape the game? This is the kind of thing I assumed doesn't have to be argued, kind of like why raping women is bad. It should just be common sense.

Apparently you never played The Conduit or CoD : WaW online, modded Wii w/ hacked versions of the games being loaded off of USB HDDs ruined what online community there was.

Wii games have been hacked online for a long, long time, which is why I don't play Wii games anymore. I'd guess the hacking has existed ever since the homebrew and piracy took hold on the Wii...

I'm sure that you may think that hacking ruined the online community, but in reality, I bet that it was the Wii's terrible lack of online features that have killed basically every online game for the Wii.

I'm in India now. AFAIK the indian ISP could care less what I steal. So I'm really going to go to town now and start pirating again.

Which means I will probably get a copy of SCII and every other PC game I have missed. I tried to buy Assassin's Creed from Amazon download (actually I did buy it but the download keeps getting interrupted so now I am going to get it from a torrent). I feel I have bought more than enough games, given enough to the gaming community, so if I steal now it is okay.
