I've played a couple of hours last night and I must say it's a pretty nice port, it plays very smoothly so far, no itches, freezes or issues at all. They included what I'd consider basic video and audio options, and there's options as well for remapping controller buttons and... well, it's a pretty nice port overall, heck we can even adjust brightness, gamma and contrast?! That's toasty! So anyway for a good hour or so I followed the tutorial, and then went on training mode (free training without actual tutorials that is) and then tried a regular match against the A.I. on Normal mode, and I got trashed so hard it sent me back in the mid 90's when I completely... no, when I Kompletely sucked at MK (I was quite good at MK3 at the arcades, and then pretty good actually at MK4 later on but I've never really been good at MK overall, although I still love it).
I'm playing with my SFIV MadCatz fight pad which was detected automatically by the game as well (after installing the Microsoft Windows Accessories drivers and nothing else, no need for configurations of the controller after installing that either), heck I didn't even need to adjust anything in the game options and I'm using the default controller setup. Now, the thing is that the MadCatz pad has a double 3-buttons layout à-la Sega Genesis controller (additionally to two shoulder buttons), and both the RB and RT buttons are on the far right (bottom right is RT and above is RB) and I'd say so far that specifically for this controller the first setup might not be the best one to use so I'll probably have to create my own (I'm tempted to say Kreate at this point... well I did, nvm, so much MK influence!). I might consider buying a 360 controller if ultimately I can't play efficiently but I really think it's just a question of adaption and practice since I've mostly played my fighting games with similar controllers over the years. And all this reminds me that the worst ever controller I had the displeasure to use for fighting games was the Dreamcast one, don't give me triggers for fighting games please, yuk (although the D-Pad was small so moving around was very accurate, nice advantage!).
I'm keeping the story mode for later on though, when I played the game on the 360 that's mostly what I saw of it and barely practiced my skills at the time (which was about a year or so ago by now so I forgot everything and only remember basic Scorpion and Sub-Zero moves which I've always remembered anyway since MK1 and MK2). So I'll jump in the story mode once I can manage to win two rounds against Normal A.I., hehe (which might... take some time, admittedly, you guys won't see me on-line anytime soon but I plan on getting kicked there eventually).
So anyway, I'm very satisfied by this port, they've done a good job and $22.50 for it was just flawless. In fact I'm almost certain that if Injustice or even MK Vs. DC ever get ported they'll ask the same guys (High Voltage Software) again since they obviously know how to port a game well (I don't know anything about them expect for this port but at least for this port specifically they did well, in my opinion anyway).
