So.. My $10.00 an hour job, is kinda like $5.00 an hour.

Agreed! But someone will come in any minute and call you an idiot for saying: Actually he is getting paid $10.00 an hour.

However, I sympathize for the soon to be poster. It's blue Monday.. and I forgive you.

I'll look for an IT/Intern job while working for this guy, he's a push over yes man. I'm assuming I am in a position to make decisions on my job, what I do and where I do it. It's honestly quite funny because these people seem to like me for that. They want me to be their first manager lol.

When you get a job.....any job....you're going to have to pay money to work at that job, be it gas....commute time. You should factor all of this in BEFORE accepting the job, or even applying.

However, in your situation, I would believe that you probably get more than you think from this job....first and foremost, experience. At your age, you NEED to work and get a good track record. I would, however, explain to your boss that you want a better title and more responsibilities that suit your skills.

Then see where you can go in the company. Always keep a copy of your resume in your glove box and keep an updated electronic copy on your computer....continuously search for a job closer to home and that pays more.

I basically try to work within 10 miles of my house. Last job I had was 9 miles from home....my current job is 3.5. It would take a lot of money to make me change my ways and commute more than 10 miles.

I understand where you are coming from Scarpozzi. This job really is a nobody job though. This company was founded in 2001 and supposedly is "growing", the company wants a website up as they now will be going from 8 clients to 13 clients by summer and expect that number to be doubled or tripled by the end of 07. As for IT & etc. at this job, other than website management (I know little about HTML, I would be using a page builder, but these people are internet illiterate anyway). They expect drastic increases in their company, however nothing that would make my job title that much better. Especially in the IT field (I am in college for computers).

Again, the reason I took my current job: It was my last day before getting laid off. An inspection squad of 2-3 people came into to look at this building. I gave them a tour, and these 2-3 people ended up being my current employers as the building I used to work in will soon be their next client once it reopens. I do understand that I have to take gas into consideration, however when i signed up for this job, I was under the impression I would be working 5+ hours at this building, cleaning it. Turns out it takes me only 2. So therefore, its pointless to work there. I guess I'll look up milwaukeejobs.com or something and hopefully land a help desk job or something close to home.

I detect sarcasm . In any event, I'm just saying... There's a lot of room for options here. They take my opinion, almost too seriously. It's almost impossible to be the man underneath them when their IQ matches that of the president.

you are the one that cant figure out how much you make, what you are supposed to do, or even if you should do it and then post it on here for everyone to laugh at.

To leftyman:

Well I do have it figured out.

I know how much I make. Are you one of the people who say: Oh you make $10.00, not $3.00? I knew you would be in here within minutes after loup garou's post, you were just being sneeky! aha

I came on AT to ask on what I should do. Hence the thread. People come on ATOT for help/suggestions all the time. + People like you are the one's people should laugh at. There's been some helpful posts in here.. I'd be satisfied if the thread just died now. But some schmuck will make some "Hey you make $10.00, not 3" and make me come back in here to teach them the science behind "figurative language".

To fire400:

Yea, I'll probably do that. Now that I've had time to reflect on my position, by reading users posts & having had time to think it over. Thanks for the help. Unlike some people who live & feed off sarcasm. *Cough*

I factor in my commute when deciding my true wage for any job. If i'm traveling hours to my job each way, those are hours that I'm dedicating exclusively to my job but am simply not getting paid for.

In my mind that's more honest than getting excited about a job offer that where i'm making 2 more per hour than my current job, but i'm spending an extra hour traveling each way. It's hard to quantify my lost free time, but this is an easy way to factor traveling into my decision of which job to take.

Just because none of you do it that way, it doesn't mean it's wrong of him or me to do it. And it definitely doesn't say anything about a person's intelligence.

Stick it where the sun don't shine Rightygirl.

Yea I get what your saying yowolabi, its just that I'm walking out on a job that I get laid off from. Then, when you think it'll take a few weeks to get a new job.. a new job presents itself right in front of you, allowing a seamless transition between my last job and my current one. This way, I never was jobless you see. I took it as the opportunity presented itself + the benefit of managing a building I've worked inside of for over a year already come spring time. But if there is a job in which is closer + pays more. For sure I'll take that job. I worked at McD when I was 14, never going back! Yes they hired me when I was 14. I turned 15 a month afterwards.

Go get a job at a call center if you can handle that type of work. You can work your way up the ladder of the technical field. Start off as customer service or tier 1 and work your way up.

I should make a list of people who lack figurative language skills. Someone obviously didn't read well enough in the first post.. to notice I am 19. Learn2read.

Hmm, yea I'll try to look for a company that'll allow me to work my way up the ranks. As long as they allow me to work around my college schedule.

Why don't you just get a job managing a Gap or Abercrombie or something at the mall. My friend did that in-between jobs in Milwaukee. He said it was easy, paid reasonably well (for the work...or lack thereof) and the girls were pretty hot and easy.

Well, I didn't feel like reading the epic novel "All That Sh*t By You, Volumes I through III" so I must have skipped it.

Anyhow, you should probably go back to the typical jobs for kids your age - flipping burgers, pumping gas, bagging groceries, etc. You'll probably make more. Or work in retail, as suggested by Gooberlx2.

so basically i think you're utterly retarded for thinking that you can add your commute cost into your hourly pay.

get a different job or suck it up.

Alright Gizmo, put yourself in my position:

You loose your job, you have monthly payments on car, rent, cell phone + extras. The job lays you off (a part time employee) with almost no notice, and you have no where else to turn. It's already the 26th. Next months bills will be coming soon. The money you were making was not enough to have any saved, you used almost all you had for the nessesary things, being a poor college student and all. Just then, your last day, someone see's you cleaning out your office, he offers you a job, paying the same you were getting paid (beats minimum wage by far). Without hesitation you'd take it, only for the seamless transition between jobs, you could afford next months rounds without having to ask for money from relatives. You ask him where it is, he says "around here, not far" and then comes your first day of work (2 days after you meet the guy). That's your first day. The next day, you come on AT and get bashed for it.

Now I'll have a place holder job until I find another job. I already said I'm doing that.. Plus, I told the boss this situation and said I'm not commuting out there anymore, and will do his website + his parking. Thats it, and to do that until I find a better job. Not to mention, I can make 10$ an hour doing my homework, waiting for cars to park in a parking lot and take their money.. Go back and sit in my car. Then, at night when i have nothing better to do, I can manage his website.. and get paid for it. Totaling this up, its a little over 100 a week. Not bad for almost doing nothing. No back breaking work, no toilet cleaning or flipping burgers for 5.75/hr.

In any event I have a plan. So whatever.

Where the hell did you learn about opportunity cost?

Apparently he never has.
