So....my coworker just printed off a 15 page porn email on the color laser

I never get why some ppl print out porn emails with pictures. It happened tons of times back in 2000 while I was a student computer lab consultant at a university. Students would print their porn images to the unix printers with their username as a cover sheet.

Documents get jumbled up at printers. If he was printing something "wrong," there's a chance that it will get mixed up in other ppl's reports and yours as well. The worst thing that can happen to an innocent bystander is that it gets stapled to a report to a manager or something, and that innocent bystander gets fired.

i dunno... the last thing i would want is to be the guy that ratted someone out to lose their job. sure, they were screwing up etc etc, but if he snaps and gets pissed at you, he might stalk you or key your car or some crap.

Well in this crazy world, I would rat him out. Imagine if a female coworker saw this. He gets busted. He then says "MikeyIs4Dcats thought it was cool when he saw them." Now MikeyIs4Dcats is brought into the fray whether he is guilty or not he now has a question mark over his head. Something like this happened to a friend of mine. He came out of it okay but not without someone wathcing him closely from then on out.

*IF* someone, especially a female saw it, sure your'd be obligated, at the very least to CYA. That didn't appear to be the case here.

Aside from that, deny, deny, deny. They aren't going to let someone who was printing porn take someone else down with them.

If the guy is this big a moron, things will "work themselves out" in due time. It's not necesary to be the catalyst.

I feel it was highly inappropriate to print them. We have a somewhat laid back culture here, and no one is going to get fired for receiving a dirty email, but printing it goes to a higher level. Doing anything where another employee can witness it is a problem. And we're not talking some joke email or lewd cartoon, but explicit pornography. He's on an even shorter leash now, and next time he screws up, his ass is grass.

I didn't say it was impossible...I don't see how worrying about some loser coming after me is going to change how I handle them. If anything it would give me an excuse to give them what they had coming.

If they want to do stuff behind the scenes, so be it...one of the reasons insurance is nice.

I wouldn't put up with that, not from a repeat offender. I put up with bullshit for a year, and finally I put my foot down and took care of the problem. I'm glad I did and don't regret it one bit. The workplace is just that -- THE ****WORK**** PLACE. There are millions of jobs, so there is no reason to put up with a slacker (which affects other workers as well). If you don't like work, then don't work! It's not complicated. I never understood those types.

I think you handled the situation well though, even if I would have been more severe. If he doesn't improve, I would get rid of him.

By GIVING HIM the second copy that he printed out, you probably don't have any proof of what he did anymore.
