I disagree with the OP's outrage. Some people are simply better with their money than others. Being stupid with your money is something factored into the system, because these people would literally starve if there wasn't some percent error.

That error could be used by someone keeping good books to do something silly like save to invest in a university education; or they might save a bit and get a big TV or save a lot and get a car that jumps on command and has spinning rims.

For your daughters 15th birthday, though, blowing your money on lobster, steak and tiki torches seems reasonable.

There are. It's why you can't go to Wal-Mart Supercenter and buy from electronics or the in-store McDonalds but you can buy food from the grocery section. AFAIK, you can't buy hot foods from the deli (fried or rotisserie chicken, for example) and you probably can't buy deli sandwiches or fresh-baked goods either (loaf of sliced sandwich bread in a plastic package is OK, but probably not a loaf of fresh-baked French bread in a paper sleeve).

Welcome to the new underground economy. It uses to be that you could sell your food stamps for $.50 on the dollar and it was big business. To stop it they went with EBT cards. Now what they do is take a shopping order and sell the food at half price. How else to you think they get their cigarette, beer and dope money? I know quite a few people though my line of work that do it. They only solace is that they have to actually do something for their money.

i dont care what they buy, they should be allowed anything they want... but all i know is i have to aggressively budget my food expenses every month, and that means i must buy generic foods for the most part or i simply will not meet my budget. but somehow im always waiting behind someone with food stamps that has a cart twice as full with twice as expensive shit in it. they spend $160 of taxpayers money, i spend $55 of my money. thats what doesnt feel right to me.
