"light gamer" "3 monitors".... I suppose you gave the same reaction* as my wife did this morning when I suggested that we should put about half the mugs in the cupboard into storage so that cupboard isn't chock-full of mugs.

"I'm a light coffee drinker, that's why I need 26 mugs in the cupboard!"

* - the sort of reaction that strongly suggests that she's not going to talk to me unless she absolutely has to for at least half an hour.

You're going about it all wrong. What you do is remove one mug a week and put it in storage and if she mentions something about the mugs just say "I never use the things, don't ask me"

Get the triple-monitor arm and mount it on the wall, then the whole desk will be free just for her.

Can't believe I'm siding with the GF here, but three 21" monitors side by side sounds awful.

Could someone explain to me what in the heck are three monitors good for? Except for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Light gamer and three monitors? I am sorry, this is the most ridiculous thing I have read in years, computers-related.

I am still genuinely curious what in the heck you need such setup for.

The office work, programming, gaming, internet, probably everything apart from movies is better done on more than 1 screen.

That's what I was thinking on top of everything else.

Hardly... Except for the programming maybe. I found it handy to have main desktop with all the regular program I used on one screen, and mails/remote desktop on another in my former job, but it was just that: handy. Dual monitors, allright? Now considering I was using such setup for WORK, I fail to see how a college boy (no offence) would need something beyond that.

There's no way in hell you would need or could even put to use three monitors for porn and light gaming.

At work I use three monitors and feel like it's not enough. At home I still only have two monitors, but my main one is 27" and the other 23, so it's still a fair bit of space. Having said that, I will eventually have a triple monitor setup no doubt. And I live in a pretty damn small one room apartment hehehe.

At any rate.. good luck with your search!

You are right it's not mandatory, but it is proved efficient when working with alot of static data. The college guys don't need it, they want it, most youngsters who own multi-monitor setups are using them for eyefinity gaming, rather than working. Although you are also right here, it's not needed, modern gaming is way too much about owning the gaming hardware rather than playing the game itself and topping the score boards regardless of what hardware you have.

nope three 5:4 monitors is perfect for FPS. I only have 17's but you end up with 3840x1024, almost identical feel to 3x 1080P monitors without 2000x1080 additional useless pixels.

I'd actually be tempted by those ultrawide monitors for work purposes. I use the crap out of Windows 7's Snap feature, and having a debugger on one half of the screen and program being debugged on the other would work pretty well.

NO ONE and i mean NO ONE can pull me off 3 monitors.

I wont do it.. i refuse to do it... and infact im even thinking of adding a 4th which will be a multi touch screen / table monitor soon.

Have you considered compressing the station?
Possibly get a multi monitor stand?

I am about to pull the trigger on the LG 21:9 monitor for this reason. Sure, it will be nice in gaming as well, but this will be very nice. Not bezel to annoy me while having two development windows open. I am just trying to get actual clarification if the models available in the US are the 1.25 firmware.

Dell has a 21:9 as well, but both of them are just so stinking expensive. It is almost cheaper to get 3 21s and a 3 monitor stand. But, bezel.

Eh, I don't think $600 is that expensive, considering I spent $350 on my gaming monitor and $350 on my 'work' monitor.

This is why I'm glad I'm single. Nobody is going to tell me to change anything.

Those ultra wide monitors look interesting though... Linux only supports 2 monitors and I've been struggling with crappy work around to get 3 working, but 2 of these ultra wides would be nice... one on top of each other.

Linux absolutely supports 3 monitors (at least I know it does with a GTX 670 and the latest Nvidia drivers (may need to use beta)). Use the xrandr command to set the display devices properly, like the following:

xrandr --output DVI-1 --auto --output DVI-2 --auto --right-of DVI-1 --output DVI-3 --auto --right-of DVI-2

Replace DVI-X with the display devices you have configured/named in your configuration.
