I know very little about bike accessories.

I looked up a couple random products from the site and found them for less with free shipping from Amazon.

What's special about the accessories that people would pay more to get them from you?

A couple of the items available are without the logo attached, nothing super fancy.... which items?

I'm asking YOU which items people should get excited about.

I looked up headlights, tail lights, seats, handle bar grips, etc.

All of the ones I looked for on Amazon were cheaper there and had free shipping.

I want to know what items you think people should be excited about.

EDIT: I meant "very impressed" instead of excited.

Took a look at the site.......and all I can say is marketing over substance.

The helmet. That's a helmet typically worn by skaters, not cyclists. No vents worth a damn, will be HOT. No wonder they're pushing the cycling cap for under the helmet wearing; you're going to need something to soak up the sweat.

Ever wonder why cycling helmets have so many vents?

The bell......just another brass bell. Amazon sells the exact same thing, without having to resort to "finding it in Italy".

I see no difference between the two. Bet both are made in China.

Just another average bunch of junk that's easily replicated by every bike shop in the world and most will carry better alternatives to what's on that overpriced website.

The Incredibell, for instance, is probably the smallest, easiest to use, best sounding and loudest bell I've seen for a thumb operated bell.

For baskets, there are much better alternatives....Trek has a whole line of folding bags that are lighter, won't rust, fold up when not in use (and yes, they have a hard floor to the bag that folds up into the bag when you collapse it) so it's out of the way. Even has handles and you can carry into stores, unlike most permanently mounted wire baskets, which are much heavier and cumbersome.

Want more style and higher price?

Sorry, but everything being sold at Public Bikes is already on the market at cheaper prices found almost anywhere you care to look.....bike shops, Nashbar, Performance Bikes, Trek, Giant, Cambria Bikes, Jenson USA, Speedgoat Bicycles, and on and on.

Good luck.

Meghan,

I believe the same words were said about the previous company they started as well, you could get similar items from elsewhere, but not those exact items, and those exact designs could you always find in the US...

buntly put almost ALL of those accessories could be found at a well-stocked local bikes store. I know of 2 around here that either A) have all/most the Brooks seats, head/tail lights/pumps/locks items in stock or B) can order them for you at a much lower price (plu sno shipping).

I fully understand the market this compay is going for, and there are SOME of them out there. Not nearly enough for a business to survive though. Not to mention people that like this kind of stuff like to buy it LOCALLY from a small shop. ie: the people that want a basket that is "market ready", would prefer to buy to buy it from a local vendor.

Sorry MikeMike, this is going to be a failure.

you guys have no sense of design and why these products will be an interesting concept

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has been done before though, and are currently BEING DONE on some level. What they are offering, as much as you try to tell us otherwise, is NOTHING new. That is the problem with it.

I think this is actually a cunning piece of satire. Am I right? What did I win? A bike maybe?

guys, this is San Francisco. (Apple is down the street, so the comparisons are apt.)

I think they know their market very well. Same shit as anywhere else, slap a derivative face on it and call it unique, mark the product up about 60%, and the locals will be all over it.

Some people want to spend more just so it means more to them, and some fortunate companies are there to take those people's money. It's all about marketing and positioning. LaCoste polos are not (much if at all) more expensive to make than Chaps but sell for 4 times as much.
