i've had CFL lights interfere with IR signals before (harmony remote, rc chopper)

perhaps your bulbs are magically sending a power on signal?

Guys there's a perfectly logical explanation for this, and that is Bigfoot (or Sasquatch if you prefer, or possibly a Skunk Ape or Grass Man depending on your region).

Some TVs have a "feature" that has them turn on after a power outage.

If you have a short in your wiring, when you turn on one of the light switches, you could be causing power surge. That could be interpreted as a power outage and, thus, the TV turns on.

I have a couple of switches in my place that control the power on certain outlets. If I have stuff plugged into them then accidentally turn the switch on/off, then the appliance will turn on/off accordingly. I have had at least one of these in pretty much all places I've lived (at least as far as I can recall).

to add something useful, if your TV has a side panel of buttons, apparently sometimes static charge builds up and causes it to do fucked up things. I have a TV that randomly switches input selector on despite nothing touching buttons. I read a lot of people with this issue that if you press the button on the side a bunch of times it fixes it, which it ended up doing in my case. It came back like 6 months later and I just jammed the side input selector button like 100 times, been gone since then again.

so in short, if you usually use your remote all the time, try pressing the power button a bunch of times on the side and see if it stops?

hmm... may be plausible. I will investigate this. I hope this is not the case though, because if so then I have some type of power distribution issues in that room.

To eliminate one thing at a time, you could cover the IR sensor with tape tonight and see how it goes.

I have a 32" TLC about a year old and it did the same thing two days in a row about a month or so ago. I was sitting on the couch the first time browsing the web on my laptop and I was walking to another room the second time. It hasn't happened since though.

This used to happen to me. Ended up being the remote control. Took the batteries out and it went away.

I'd suggesting putting a piece of electrical tape over the ir sensor and see what happens.

I had a remote like that once. When the batteries would get low apparently it would send out random IR signals.
