Update-

Thank you for the well wishes everyone.

She's home today, but not doing so hot. She's in severe pain and just plain feels sick. If things get any worse we may take her back in. She was doing better this morning but I guess all the pain meds wore off

Getting off the pain medication will be the biggest obstacle to her recovery. She need to be taken off slowly or she will go into severe withdrawal.

I already know you won't, but don't hesitate to be proactive about her dosages until they get it right.

Fritzo - good luck to your wife and her recovery

It truly takes a great man to stick it out with a loved one through severe pain and hardship. That's what makes great marriages last.

There is no better feeling than knowing that your loved one will be there no matter what!!!

Wow, this surgery sucks. She's still in so much pain and can't move without assistance. I ended up taking the whole week off of work.

On the plus side, I finally started to play the copy of Skyrim that I got for Christmas 2 years ago when she sleeps. Do people know about this game? It rocks!

hehe, been playing it a month or so. When it came out I wasn't interested cause the setting didn't appeal to me. Game is great though, reminds me of FO3, but less buggy, fancier environments, better story.

Anyway, what's the prognosis on the recovery? Is this continued pain expected?

Yeah. The only thing they could give her that is effective is Tylenol 3 w/ codine, which only lasts 2-3 hours and you can only take it every 4 hours. She might have another week of severe pain and then start to improve after that.

Trying to get broths and clear liquids into her...she hasn't really had over 100 calories a day since Monday.

Another week, damn. At least there's light at the end of the tunnel and soon this will just be a memory. Best wishes.

Yeah it was a great game, but it gets kinda unfair once you learn the last dragon shout... not unlike being able to run through the oblivion gates fast enough after a while in Oblivion ES4 though. Buggy as fuck like all Bethesda software but a fun ride nonetheless.

Hope your wife's pain recedes soon from the surgery

Careful on that Codeine. Would have been better if she got two different pain meds to switch between to prevent getting hooked on one.

Actually that could be a good sign if muscles that were previously not engaging are now being flexed.

I saw a documentary on such surgeries once and, from my understanding, it's just a very painful process.

Please keep us updated on how she is.

Keep your chin up man. I was a little concerned with the way you were talking early in the thread. it seemed to me you were overly optimistic, and setting yourself up for disappointment. I didn't want to be a downer and say anything. This kind of thing takes awhile to sort out, and improvements slow in coming. Surgery's surgery, and it can really kick your ass. Add to that, previous long term pain, and medication tolerance, you'll have a rough time for awhile.

All the best to you and the wife. Hopefully this will be a distant memory this time next year.
