So now that I am finally getting around to unpacking I am starting to realize just how much stuff was "lost" in the move

Current items missing:

200+ DVDs
~50 CDs
Harman Kardon receiver
PS3 Games and Drum Set Wireless Connector
Cordless Phone System
Baseball Cards (Complete Sets 1986-1994)

Only a few more boxes to unpack, but they are all marked garage so I highly doubt the missing items are in there.

Where did they go? Are you implying your SO got rid of them? Or did the movers steal those things? If so, why didn't you keep a close eye on the movers? Another option would have been to transport those valuables yourself, or via a family member, rather than the movers.

It was a full move covered by my company so once I complete unpacking I'll have to file an insurance claim.

that sucks

I last moved almost 3 years ago... every so often, I'll go nuts looking for something small (a pair of pants, a cd, a paperback, etc) and have to just chalk it up to "lost in the move" when I can't find it.

that much stuff, though, sounds like a box or two got lost/stolen. definitely file a claim if you can.

Hmmm. I hope this doesn't sound smug or anything, but I am currently trying to pare down all of my possessions to fit into an old station wagon, and eventually to a few 50+L backpacks. Long story, and prob a weird one

I used to be a packrat myself. But Ive gotten rid of, sold, donated or trashed so much in the last year Im down to about half or less of what I used to have. But I dont think I could ever get my three moniters, computer, laptop, stereo, TV, etc into a few backpacks. But Im working on it.

I also went through a packrat phase when I owned a house and had an empty basement. The feeling of lightening the burden of owned stuff is quite invigorating, however, I can't help to think about a couple things I got rid o. Thank goodness for netbooks at least...

I thought I had lost all of my CDs and DVDs in the last move... They were in a box labeled "Garage".

Worth a shot, that's some pretty spendy loss you got going on there. Usually people lose some plates or nik-nak type shit.

Last time we moved cross country (using mayflower) I lost my goddamn computer. We did gain an expensive frame with some guy's doctorate degree.

We lost my electric razor and a small box of pots and pans. No great loss.

It would suck if I lost my receiver and CDs!!!

We just found our laser printer at the bottom of the last box we finally unpacked just the other day. For the last 8 months we thought it had disappeared.

1) Did you watch the packing.
1a) Were the items in the box, labeled and inventoried

2) Are there any boxes missing from the inventory sheet. That is what you will need to file the claim of lost items.

3) I have had missing boxes show up a month later from the movers transit location - mis-stored at the warehouse. - If a box is missing from the inventory sheet - contact the local mover's office

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I own a lot of stuff. Most of it is useless to me.
