They should just start doing version numbers instead like they do for software. So, instead of having a meaningless marketing product name like "GeForce Turbo Titan Ti 9000 Extreme Edition!!!", they could just call it GeForce version 27.1.

They should just go 1080. R7, R9 etc has to be the dumbest scheme yet.

"GTX" is such a well known established brand/moniker that there is no way Nvidia would drop that part of the product name. no chance. My guess is they will go to 4 digits again and start back over from 1 or 2

Why do they call it the Xbox 360? Because when you see it, you turn 360 degrees and walk away!

I've seen that used before, but it always amuses me for one reason... whoever thought of it did a poor job wording it, and with a bit of slyness, it actually works. The problem is that the person doesn't state "in the same direction", which means you can arguably turn 90 degrees in one direction and 270 degrees in the other direction. As the statement says, you've turned (a total of) 360 degrees, but you're actually facing 180 degrees from the original position.

And then what happens when they get back to the 5800?

They wont. Because it will go 1040/1050/1050ti for the lower end and 1080/1080ti for the high end. And then the next gen would be 1150/1160/1170/1180 and then the next gen would be 1260/1270/1280 and so on. It would be decades before they got back to 5800 again. And even if they did, it would still be fine because there never was a GeForce 5850/5860/5870/5880. There was only 5700 and 5800, with ultra, le, etc for product differentiation.

That isn't future proof either. I say they'll more likely drop a digit.

What the hell does GTX mean anyway?
