It's funny how if a sandwich has the word salad, ie tuna or chicken, it is very unhealthy

How does mixing it up with a bunch of mayo make it a salad?

Hhmm things must be different in USA because the tuna they serve here is just that - tuna. No mayo (who the HELL would put mayo with tuna anyway?). So a tuna sub here is pretty good, but mostly when I go to Subway I have a tuna salad (pretty much a sandwich sans the bread). Bread is pretty calorie dense and even the whole wheat stuff leaves a lot to be desired nutritionally.

I'm still amazed at this tuna and mayo thing - is that normal where you come from? Tuna is a great tasting fish and very good for you, I can't see the sense is ruining that with oodles of mayo.

chicken teriyaki for the win.

no fat in the meat or the sauce.
plenty of protein in the meat. and it tastes good.

Subway sucks. I'd rather go to the grocery store and get a loaf of french bread and a package of lunch meat for less.

For $4.50 I go to my local Chineese restaurant and get a chicken and fresh vegitable stir fry with rice and tea for lunch. OK I leave a $1.50 tip but it is still worth it.

Anything at ANY restuarant that tastes good has everything that's bad in it for you.......

saturated fat
sodium
sugar
bleached flour, etc.


Wanna try healthy subway sandwich??

Try a turkey sandwich..........sans the following.......

BREAD
MAYO
CHEESE
and ANY KIND OF SAUCE THEY OFFER.

Southwest sauce = mayo w/ artificial flavors.
Teriyaki chicken sauce = sugar, sugar & more sugar. (rub some between your fingers & let it sit there for a minute. Sticky as !$#@%T!)

Anyway.......it may suck, but it's true.

Ask 'em to throw some turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and bells in a bowl for you. Eat it without any dressing, salt, pepper, oil or vinegar and after you're done choking on that & wondering if life is even still worth living, wash it down with some uber-flavorful, high-quality, chlorinated, flouridated ice-cold water!!

Yummers!!! (insert "Debbie Downer" smiley here!!)

I have subway and usually have the meatball sub. For me I can only speculate that the reason subway feels better than most fast food is because regardless of the calories/sodium/whatever, I always put a lot of veggies and those are pretty important.

I'm pretty sure that sandwich meat is next to useless, from a nutrition standpoint. So that wipes out 90% of subway's menu right there. Tuna with mayo, meatballs, and any chicken with sauce is going to be loaded with fat.

As far as I can tell, the only healthy things at subway are grilled chicken breasts, the sandwich bread, and the veggies. For a few bucks, you can go down to McDonalds and get the equivalent in a grilled chicken sandwich.

And remember, every order needs to be followed by the phrase "no sauce".

It's either the veggies, or the massive amount of advertising that positions subway as a healthy alternative to fast food.

how is the tuna sandwich anyway? never had it. i usually get the BMT or such.

Why would you get no sauce? Mustard is tasty and has almost no calories.

Also, those low fat subs they brag about are only a few select sandwiches (they should list them in the 5g/fat list, or whatever it is) and assumes you don't get any cheese. Cheese skyrockets the fat and calories.

Subway can be a healthy place to eat. The main advantage of Subway, imo, is that it is far easier to eat healthier and far tastier and for less money than almost any other fast food outlet.
Basically you just get a sandwhich with low fat meats. Turkey, ham, etc. Pile on the veggies and ask for the light mayo.
You can get a salad with low fat dressing at McDonald. But you pay a lot and its not as satisfying a meal as you get at Subway.
What I get at Subway is a 6 inch Turkey and Ham sub, with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. If I am going to take it home I then put low-cal italian dressing on it. I also get the Baked Lays or Baked Doritos.
The six inche turkey breast and ham has 290 calories and 5 grams of fat.
The Baked Doritos are something like 210 calories and about 6 grams of fat.
Of course you are still getting too much sodium but compare this to any McDonalds hamburger and fries and its amazingly healthy.

That's true, I forgot about mustard. I forgot about it because I don't like it very much. Then again, I like all my sandwiches dry. Outside of mustard, I can't think of any other sauce you'd want on a healthy sandwich.
