1. Are the treadmills loud, thereby forcing any conversation to be awkwardly loud?
2. Are any of you short of breath, sweaty, or otherwise exhausted?
3. Is she way above your league?

If all of the answers are no, feel free to commence conversation. Minimum of 2 possible 'no' answers to even think about it.

i was running once, and some guy walked up to me. a co-worker. he just stood there and began to talk to me. I didn't talked to him, and made a 1 minute sign, and also a, I'll talk to you later. I even waved him away! He then says: "you know, if you can't talk when you're running, that means that you shouldn't run at that speed, you should slow down."

After another 30 seconds, I just slowed down the treadmil and talked to him just to get rid of him. When we were done with the conversation, i lost my rythm, and breathing that i couldn't run anymore.:|

Whoozyerdaddy's, "Wanna race?", is cute, but I really don't like to talk to anyone when I'm on the treadmill. It's just too difficult and breaks your rhythm. You might try getting on one of the weight machines next to her and talking. I don't mind that so much, but make sure it's not when she's on the abductor/adductor machine, that's just so wrong.

But you only go to the gym to work out not have casual chats.
Best time to have a conversation is before she gets dressed to work out, when she's sitting & isn't breathless or before she leaves the gym. = )

That's generally what I thought as well, and many of my female friends have supported the idea. However, I met the last girl that I dated at my gym. I'd seen her quite a few times over a ~1 month period, and told her as much after we got to know each other. She asked why I hadn't talked to her earlier, and I quoted the above reasons. She said if I'd gone up to her the first time I'd seen her, it might've applied; but since we'd both noticed each other multiple times, it didn't really matter anymore.

Then again, as always, it depends on the girl. I do know a few who'd always have a negative opinion of a guy if he tried to pick them up in a gym. But you never know unless you try.
