You'll never guess why I'm so bothered by this story today ...
Personally, I think it's awesome that he's Chinese and he was passed over, and now he's one of the top players. Good for him, but I'm not a basketball fan... So my care-meter is still pretty low.
Having to watch local news stories centered around Lin and how "Asian Canadians are so inspired, and flocking to the game", and how the news only interviews Asians and has made all stories concerning him Asian-centric... I'm also seeing people I know (guess their ethnicity) suddenly jump on the bandwagon... Too much...
Meh, don't worry about it.
There's nothing "wrong" with it, it just makes me cringe... Cheer on.
*shudders* TV news interview just showed an Asian kid yell "Asians can do math... and play basketball" at the camera with neon signs with Chinese letters. *shudders*
1:45 NY vs TOR
Remember this is supposed to be IN Toronto. Pay attention to the "fans" or I'd rather call "bandwagoners"
4 good games and he's the next Nash? He's on Lebron's level? LOL where was the love for Lin when he was on the Warriors averaging like 2ppg? I'm not hating but a few games isn't enough to make me a believer. My neighbor said Lin's "better than James, and James is a sorry ass choke artist" I asked him "how do you know Lin isn't a choke artist too?" He started to stutter and called me a "hater" I then brought up to him stat for stat James and Kobe (his idol) are very similar on choke stats. He called me a "hater" again.
Lin & Nash shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence until dude has a solid SEASON behind him, not 5 fucking games. Welp, unless the sentence goes "Lin & Nash both play in the NBA" If he continues to play like he did on game 5 and people still don't shut the fuck up about him I don't know what I'm going to do. Games 1-4 AWESOME, game 5? not so much.

is that you, Floyd Mayweather Jr?
There's never been a Chinese-American in the NBA before, heaven forbid some fraction out of 1.4 billion ethnic Chinese are excited about that. Never mind plenty of Knicks fans and non-Asians who find this a compelling story as well.

Maybe it's just me, but for me, his bible-thumping is starting to get annoying.
I think this good for the NBA. I think to see this guy balling like this and for the Knicks is huge. I don't think all the hoopla is because he is asian, but more because he is doing this in NY. But it does add a cool wrinkle he is asian and a bible toter. Ball on young man
Interesting you mention that, because this is what Kurt Warner had to say about Tebow:Lin is not Tim Tebow. Lin is Kurt Warner.
Kurt Warner said:But Warner’s advice to Tebow is to limit that outward expression of religion on the field to avoid alienating coaches, players and fans and instead the right time to share his message.
“There’s almost a faith cliche, where (athletes) come out and say, ‘I want to thank my Lord and savior,’ Warner told the Republic. “As soon as you say that, the guard goes up, the walls go up, and I came to realize you have to be more strategic.
“The greatest impact you can have on people is never what you say, but how you live.... You set the standard with your actions. The words can come after.”
and the dude has a freakin Economics degree from Harvard!!!
I agree. It is hilarious when anti-bandwagoners hate on people who watch sports for fun.such a silly argument, fan vs bandwagoner. I guess to be a fan you have to be an idiot who blindly supports an organization he has no connection to. I rather be a bandwagoner and get to enjoy watching Lin play.

Sounds like you're insecure about yourself and need to point attention to a childish non-defendable stereotype.
