Novak only seem to hit his 3s when the pass comes from Lin
Jefferies is great defensively but can't make a basket to save his life.
Amare looks like he doesn't have the will to play anymore

Melo[and to a lesser extent BDavis] remains to be seen but once he gets his shot back he should be ok
JR stunk last night, his shots were worst than Jefferies

There seems to be a inverse correlation between salaries and ability for the Knicks right now.

-10 for Anthony so far

Lin has a bad FG % but he's at +/- 0 and has 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 TOs

Tyson is +14 when he can actually be on the floor

I feel like such a noob here but what is this +/- stat about?

Is this something new? I've been watching NBA basketball for decades (albeit casually, and never follow discussion forums about the games/teams), and I've never heard of this before.

Thanks. I guess my question deserves a LMGTFY type answer :\

So this must be a rather 'new' thing to look at personal performance, right? Let's say after 2000?

Stat tracking has evolved to various systems that have their own formulas for calculating a player's worth/value. On one end you've got people who think it's all crap and not accurate, on the other end you've got those who say it's the only way to judge players. I think the answer is somewhere in between, you take the stat calculations as well as things that don't show up on a stat sheet (passion, giving your all, fearlessness, etc.) and factor them all in.

That +/- can be misleading though. What about other good players who may have left the court leaving you/your team much worse? Individuals should never be judged by team stats like the overall score. +/- in hockey is looked at VERY loosely.

Heh. It's funny reading the articles specifically mentioning that Lin had ONLY 3 turnovers that last game.

P.S. 13 minute discussion on ESPN on racial sensitivity

It's interesting that for the entire 13 minutes, nobody talked about basketball. It felt I was listening to a political discussion on PBS or something.

Haha, good one. But yeah I wish people can differentiate and separate Jeremy Lin the icon of anti-Asian stereotyping, the Rudy story, the big Taiwanese hope, or whatever symbolic thingy you want to attach him to, from the real player, the real person.

This Linsanity hype is gonna bring too much pressure, too much expectation out of JL, and when time is rough, the expectation will come crashing down and the criticism and hate will just be much much worse.

Hope he can just continue to play, to develop and be one of the guy and have fun out there.

do you devour the paint chips before or after you go to your women-beater's club?

if you're referring to how i repeatedly pummel you to a bloody pulp on various threads leading to you running and ducking from facts, guilty as charged!

Why are you so angry? Do you forget that I picked the Knicks to play in the ECF? They did have no business losing to the Hornets the other night, and hot shooting won the game for them tonight. In basketball, if shots are going in or missing anyone can win on any given night. I've said as much plenty of times and it is a fact.

The Knicks have role players surrounding Lin right now, and they can get streaky. That is what makes them role players. Without a solid foundation like Melo they can't win consistently against the big boys.

i don't get angry, but i do enjoy repeatedly putting you in your place. didn't we establish you have the most atrocious basketball analysis of anyone on this message board?

you picked the knicks with no pg, correct that, an aging pg with a severe back issue, an aging amare that has lost several steps / all of his lift (and still doesn't have a post game), melo as an iso player that's never won, and a bench full of borderline d-leaguers. yeah, you picked an 8-15 team that would've been 10-20 and out of the playoffs without lin bailing them out more brilliant insight from the clown who admitted he doesn't even watch the games.

don't despair though! chalmers, miller, and wade are much improved from last year. no chance for lebron to choke the finals away this time!

and hot shooting won the game for them tonight.

made this remark in post #777 which you've ducked:
"12 of 29 vs. 12 of 33 threes." so, both teams made the same amount of 3's and took about the same amount of 3's. your ridiculous argument shot down. overall field goal percentages: 444 vs 465. 13-17 vs 12-18 free throws. nearly identical. keep diggin, kid. it's fun watching you duck lin's performances.

In basketball, if shots are going in or missing anyone can win on any given night.

such profound insight. keep them coming. haha.

I am a Taiwanese American just like Lin , and I don't really find beloved patriot in the armor offensive. (I totally get this beloved patriot thing) Yes you cringe just to see the word, and a reports/writer/anchor should have the sensitivity to see how the phrase COULD offend Asian community with huge number of Lin fans, but I agree with you, this is a commonly used phrase.

The ESPN guy should be reprimanded for not having the sensitivity, but I doubt he did it on purpose.

Having said that, the discrimination against Asian in the US is very real. Stopping discrimination against other races have come a very long way in the US, but the same cannot be said about discrimination against Asian. JL had an interview specifically talked about the racial slurs he had to endure in games, the same would not have been tolerated if it was against African American. Even in this forum, you have a thread making fun of Chinese names a few weeks back, sure some are fun, but some are also totally discriminatory, and the sad things is many people don't know or don't care where to draw the line.

Anyways, I know there is already enough PC thing already and I don't want the government or community to make new rules. Just ask people to see that no matter what race we all are, we are all American and let's all get along.

wtf? doubt he did it on purpose?

was this blatant white racism unintentional as well?

The youtube clip doesn't actually feel like a racial remark. The female anchor's statements states that Lin has a nice build and long arms. Then the male anchor brings up the eyes. Then the second female anchor states something that sounds like the word "dreamy" or "screaming" that I can't quite make out. It feels like the male anchor was teasing the female anchor that she has noticed all of these physical attributes. Tall, handsome, nice eyes, etc. I can't be certain what his intent was but it did not feel malicious to me from that clip.

It was interesting to see that the 3 top scorers this game were amongst the lowest paid (Lin, Fields, Novak). Anthony got into the groove too, and Smith looked great on those dunks. Baron Davis looked pretty shaky in his 14 mins, though.
