I would expect he threw the baby at a wall or something similar, rather than manually breaking bone after bone. This is obviously inexcusable behavior but it is not an uncommon by-product of young, unsophisticated people of limited resources (mentally, financially, in logistical support, in role models and otherwise) raising infants.

This is an awful story but unfortunately I've heard much, much worse, as recently as in the past month or so. I will not elaborate further because this stuff is hard for most people to take.

This is home town stuff for me. I can't even describe how mad and frustrated I am right now. This kind of sick stuff happens in LA or New York, not Grand Rapids.

Fortunately I don't have to deal with this kind of thing at work very often (though I did work on a murder case with an infant victim a couple of years ago, and I have worked on a record-breakingly awful molestation case in the past). Unfortunately I stumbled across a news article a couple of weeks ago out of Missouri that makes this guy look like Ward Cleaver - really almost unimaginably ghastly.

Even if you buy into him being mentally ill, what do we do with dangerously mentally ill people in this country? Nothing. The ACLU has made it almost impossible to institutionalize them until they commit horrendous crimes.

Anyway, the article is very sparse and there may be more details I agree with dvc it was likely not a manual torture type bone by bone, and it isn't surprising it is a young guy who probably went from beer and video games and no responsibilities to suddenly this little damn baby is crying all the time and I am seriously hungover and I can't deal with this so lash out in frustration. It is possible though that he is a genuinely vindictive animal and should never be let out of prison. It goes without saying he should never father another child and probably be given a free and non voluntary vasectomy on behalf of the greater good.
