Fusetalk was never a big player. It was VB/IPB/PHPBB until XF came along.

Along the way there have been others, like FT, SMF, YABB, but really, none of them had the adoption success the the main ones had.

Yup, I wouldn't have known there was a switchover if there weren't tons of threads about it. I exclusively use tapatalk on this forum.

FuseTalk was great for a while. It could handle the incredible loads this forum used to run (it was a busy place!). If I recall correctly, there was some kind of issue with the dude that ran everything here that knew (and happened to work for the FT people?) FuseTalk and ColdFusion and nothing was getting fixed here. I kind of got the feeling AT was disgruntled with FT for various reasons.

By then VB had its shit together.

Or maybe I made it all up lol. I hardly recall what happened with FT going away. I remember there were big problems, anyway.

As I understand it: the forums were using an old version of vBulletin, which then got breached earlier in the year, with the hacker(s) getting all the users passwords and email addresses.

There are newer versions of vB, but the forums were using older one because vB apparently isn't that great anymore. So AT-Purch administration decided to move XenForo (which happens to be developed by former vB guy), one of the main commercial, newer alternatives to vB that also has better security.

It's definitely fusetalk, but a really old version... like circa 2003. They have however customized the crap out of it so it's basically their own now. It has way more features than fusetalk ever did. Probably makes it more secure too because no one else uses it.

Not just ignored, but derisively put down for even, small, simple, logical requests, respectfully delivered. It felt like we were encountering some sort of bizarro "how not to provide end user support, the crazy option" demonstration.

That's a shame too because I really rather liked Fusetalk much better than the competitors at the time.

Well it's not like much was happening with requests on vBulletin either, until Purch came in. I hope they continue to be this responsive.
