Looks like a baby Pekin. He'll need water [to drink & bathe], food and a warm spot to sleep.

You can use an incandescent desk lamp to warm a spot in his cage, just a corner, don't cook the entire cage.

For food, I suggest cracked corn and poultry pellets while he's still so young. He can't handle uncracked whole corn yet.

He will need a little place to bathe, a plastic shoebox filled with room temp water and steps to climb in & out will do fine for now.

You can line the bottom of his cage with newspaper, change it every few days. He needs to be able to walk around in a clean area.


Look for duck food at your local feed store.

Thanks for the help. We bought some Starter food for him at the place we got him. Right now we're using a fluorescent bulb above his tub, but i may go to the store and get a better one.

Someone I knew had a duck and it loved snails (the garden variety). Never had to use snail bait, as this duck would go through all the shrubbery and gobble them up.

As I remember, it was kind of disgusting to actually watch it devour these things like a kid chomping down candy.

A good duck pen would be one of those children's plastic pools. Plus you can fill it with water once a day and let him swim and bathe.

we had ducks when I was younger...i think my dad used a plastic pool..with chicken wire around the edges. Tall enough so he couldn't jump out. Made half water/ half land with a heat lamp. It was a while ago though, so i'm probably forgetting some details.
