Back when the old new camrys came out in 2002, there was no such shortage(at least in north VA). There were 5 camrys on the lot and we negotiated down from 20300 to 19300 on a auto LE.
That's because that camry wasn't particually eye catching. Whenever a cool looking car comes out everyone rushes to buy them so they can be the first on their block to have one.

Sorry but the new camry looks like ass compared to the last generation.

The old ones looked very eyecatching compared to the 1997-2001 models. The 2007 models look horrible but I guess the numbers that toyota are sure to sell will ingrain the image into our minds until we get used to it and then begin to like it out of familiarity.

Disagreed. The Camry has always been one of the most generic looking cars you can be buy until the 2007s came out.

Get a Sonata and be done with it. Don't forget the bike and bike rack for backup.

if my parents were going to get a car worth that much for me I'd take the money and get a higher end used car.

Fixed.
Seriously OP, if they're this hard to come by in your area, you're NOT going to get a deal. Vehicles are not investments, they are depreciated assets. Approach them as such. The novelty of driving what you think is your "dream car" will wear off within a month or two, and after that, it will just be a means of getting from A to B. Like someone else said, they're trying to clear '06 Accords like mad. They hold their value extremely well and, of course, they're excellent vehicles. Snag one up and enjoy it!

yup, buying a new car is one of the worst ways to spend money. but thats good for me, as long as people buy new and replace every few years, I'm gonna go buy them for 25% of the original cost
