So what are we supposed to do!?

Every thread relating to the WTC attacks I see has multiple people in it saying the U.S.A. has no right/cause/justification for launching a military incursion on/into Afghanistan. We know it was bin Laden. We have asked the Taleban to turn him over, they refused several times. We KNOW this is not the end of it; bin Laden has committed to killing as many Americans as possible. This is NOT the first time he has hit us. WTC 1993, Embassies 1998, USS Cole 2000, and now the WTC 2001. This is a man that has said there is no difference between civilian and military targets. How much more would you have us take before we act?

If we do not launch a military incursion, what do we do? Allow our citizens to be killed OVER AND OVER!? Give me an option, cause I see none.

Okay, a vague reference to military action

I agree. What I want to hear is all those who don't think we are justified. Do THEY have another means by which we end this war? I have nto heard one yet (in any other thread).

Sit back and take it up the tail pipe & support our president one way or another.

Waiting is harder on us, but it's a smarter thing to do. Everybody expects us to bomb the daylights out of the Afghans. Part of what OBL wants to to start a holy war, and this would get other people who might not have cared before thinking that way too.

Don't get me wrong, we need to take these guys out, but we need to be smart about it. That would really piss them off.

my opinion is that we should present this to the United Nations and try him as commiting crimes against humanity. Take him from his hiding and put him in jail. Treat him like a criminal and show the world that we are not going to throw away our justice system just because we want a bloody revenge. By the way, it looks like the taliban are deciding on whether or not to turn him over....hopefully they will be sensible and do it!

Suuuuure, I bet the Taliban will let us just walk in there and get him right?

It ain't just Salami Bin Madman, though. And that is the purpose of the invasion. To prevent this from happening again. Informal poll. How many think Bin Ladens is a dikfor?

He has already been indicted in the U.S. justice system, but that has not stopped him

<< Take him from his hiding and put him in jail >>

This is the crux of the problem. He was indicted by the U.S. justice system for complicity in the embassy bombings, but the Taliban did not hand him over. He has been implicated in these terrorist attacks, and yet the Taliban will not hand him over.

It would be nice to drag his sorry butt over to Nuremburg and put him on trial, but the problem is getting him there. That is why the military action is being considered. The military action is not intent on bombing Afghanistan to rubble (20 years of war with the Soviets accomplished that already), but rather to get those responsible for terrorism out of hiding so they can be brought to trial. My guess is, however, that they will have to kill bin Laden, as he will not allow himself to be tried in public (would bring out too many flaws in his thinking and would simply crumble his organization).

OK, where is he? He doesn't necessarily have to even be in Afghanistan. Another reason we are in for the long haul.

Too bad the Northern Alliance isn't strong enough to simply back and let them do the work for us. We have to invade, and it will be so easy that everybody in this fourm will be complimenting my intelligence & maturity after we whip their backwards asses.

--i am serious...it is in the news today that they are deciding...and about that threat; come on please...i suppose you are one of those kind of people that consider a small dog's barking a threat?

<< Suuuuure, I bet the Taliban will let us just walk in there and get him right? >>

--why not? send in the united nations and nato...show them that the whole world is involved...are they (the taliban) crazy enough to attack a non-military convoy that was sent as an alternative to a military one? if so, then there is no longer any reason for them to exist. Hopefully someone understands what I am trying to say...

Yes, it does grant them an alternative that does make sense but don't expect them to take it. If they do, we are still coming because we are going to take action to prevent this from ever happening again! Now do you think Bin Laden is a dikfor or don't you?

The U.S. and allies are putting the necessary pieces into place as rapidly as possible. That is a tall order on such short notice. The diplomatic front is critical. Extracting an extremist from a hostile environment like Afghanistan is not like flipping a light switch. This is a new kind of war never waged before. At least Bush has some of the best people in the world to plan it and make it happen. Colin Powell is suddenly a very important cabinet member again. By now there should be a satellite parked directly over Kabul watching everything that moves.
