Planning on trying out something new, BF4, titanfall is what I been playing mainly. Very casual gamer, do not get much time at all these days. Anything new came out recently that's a huge hit? Ready to try any genre, but must be some new and upcoming with lots of players online, do not want to try something that is past its hay days and by the time I come up to speed, majority have already moved on, tia

WoW.

Which has been the lead ever since it debuted.

I keep hoping it fails and all those people join other games.

he's a casual player doesn't have much time to play but wants to be in a big MMO

these things are mutually exclusive

MMO's are the most time demanding game out there

just buy some single player open world game

GTA, Skyrim, Witcher, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry etc...

How about Trove?

Was released earlier this month, I've been having fun with it so far and has so many players that the devs have been constantly adding more servers but there's still insane queues during peak times.

I've played plenty of mmo's casually. It's not that hard. And, with todays duty finders, group finders, or whatever they are called in your game of choice, it's easier than ever.

You could actually make an argument that mmo's are to casual now a days.

Elder Scrolls is solid; writing is decent and quests are fun....don't need to pay anything; Neverwinter is another decent one...

If you want I can throw up some videos I've done of them.

Secret World is another excellent mmo....

I also second Secret World, and Elder Scrolls and GW2. If you have played as many MMORPG's as I have, you get pretty jaded, nothing new, so they all get to see mt he same. There simply inst a game with as much to do (time sink city) as WoW, but it costs monthly. After that its hard not to say GW2, its got the polish of a long term game and its fairly new. Elder Scrolls will get that "been here, done this" feeling going pretty quickly but it has a few interesting quests that dont just hand hold ya which can make it interesting when you hit those. The Rift multi class system is neat. The real problem is when you started in MUDS, and moved up to the early MMORPGS like Drakkar, Meridian 59, UO, EQ.. you really lived through when this was NEW, and that awe will never come again, no matter how much you hope the next RPG will do it. Still doesnt mean the newer stuff cant give you a few hours of fun.

Can't believe no mention of FFXIV. WoW still has the most subscribers but FFXIV has carved out a very nice market for itself. Playing casually would mostly leave with you with progressing through the main story for quite a while with some dungeons interspersed along the way and the game has included a number of mechanisms in the game to help ensure old content still has people running it actively through dailies or special quests.

Anyone saying anything that isn't WoW isn't actually answering the question. So, it's then pretty easy to see why people didn't mention FFXIV.

The problem is the question in the title of the thread and the content of the OP didn't jive. The answer to the question in the title is WoW, there's really no other way to answer that.

However, OP's post said other things like it has to be new and not from the past, which then negated his own question.

So I guess OP should clarify what he wants to know. Does he really want to know the current most played non-browser based MMO? Or does he want to try something new and upcoming?

If you're casual you won't be doing endgame raiding, so "majority have moved on" doesn't matter much.

Have you played Star Wars TOR and Star Trek Online? Both can be played as single-player online games, and if you like them you can get the unlocks you need for $5-15.

FFXIV has a pretty strong casual player base. The game plays very well to the casual base, at the chagrin of the non-casuals.

Ha! EVE is not exactly the go to MMO for casual gaming.

sure it is, you can mine at your leisure, run missions when you feel like it, ect

large alliance warfare on the other hand is not for the casual

For monthly fee MMOs FF14 is probably the most casual friendly game outside of WOW if you don't raid.

guild wars 2 is a one time purchase, Tera is also free and ESO is a one time purchase too I believe.

For some reason the Elder Scrolls has left a very bad impression on me, i found it horrible, boring repetitive quests, just more of the same old thing.

Played Elder Scrolls Online.

Its OK. Better than most MMO's. Not nearly as good as an Elder Scrolls game.

They should just remake 1 thru 4 with the latest engine.
