Ideally, you'd both get tested together before engaging in sex. This of course doesn't usually happen.

But really, if it's a semi-serious relationship at all you should be able to ask her.

Even if a 'respected' member had asked this question, I doubt there would be many serious replies. Most people simply don't ask. Even if you do ask your partner, there is no way of knowing if he/she lies. It's also possible your partner doesn't know he/she has a STD.

Best way is to both get tested before doing anything sexual. That's very rare.
Other than that, get to know your partner before doing anything sexual. Knowing his/her lifestyle may give you a good idea of the possibility of him/her having a disease. That's not foolproof... the sweet girl that only had one boyfriend and never cheated may still be carrying something if her ex-bf was cheating on her.

Testing is the only way to know for sure. Condoms and knowing your partner helps.
