I mean I'd like to forget about Civ 5 but Firaxis isn't making it easy keeping it in our memory for 6 years now.

Wow seems odd that those hexes have been vexing my brain for 6 years now.

I was looking around the net for info on it and just came up with a bunch of speculation. Anyone have some facts to share?

If Brad Wardell is right it looks like 2016 will be an epic year for 4x games!

"The coming 4X Armageddon
By Frogboy on December 16, 2015 7:56:30 PM from Galactic Civilizations III Forums Galactic Civilizations III Forums

Be careful what you wish for.

Next year all the 4X’s are going to come out. What I write below is not under some NDA. I know it because it’s my job to know it.

Let me walk you through the schedule:

1H2016: Stellaris, Master of Orion

2H2016: Civilization VI, Endless Space 2

I could be wrong on the dates. You could swap some of this around a bit but you get the idea.

Where is GalCiv III in this?

Stardock will be announcing its first expansion in January. I won’t go into details here but it is something we’ve never done before. 2016 we’re going to release a steady stream of GalCiv updates but we are going to do our best to stay away from the flood and work on the really big GalCiv III expandalone for much later.

GalCIv III has been a tremendous success for us. It’s kind of our Civ V. That is, with Civ V, a lot of long time fans were really upset that it didn’t do X, or Y like Civ IV had but it brought in a lot of new players. GalCiv III has done a good job welcoming a lot of new players into the GalCiv universe. 2016 is going to add a kick ass expansion (target release date February) and follow that up with a lot of updates to refine and improve the GalCiv III universe. But it won’t make sense to do another big expansion after February since all the 4Xs are coming out."

huh? It's a Top 10 played game on Steam, and has been for a long time. Just like CivIV, the DLC made up for some of it's initial shortcomings. Even I prefer it over CivIV now (not that really matters much, I guess. lol)

because nabs. but look at the hardcore civ community, they will all tell you Civ5 is the fisher-price edition.

"hardcore" groups are rarely as important or as big as they sound, would like you to believe or as they think they are.

I used to be a fan of Civ, but after learning to play Paradox strategy games (Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis 4, Victoria 2), I stopped playing Civ. I wonder if Civ 6 will have enough changes to make me care again.

Civ 5 sold very well, and the expansions for it do a great job. Civ 5 is an excellent game.

But it is time for Civ 6. Hopefully they don't just reuse the same engine.

I actually bought all the expansions, but the last one I hardly put any time into. I just couldn't get over the hexes and always getting stuck with a military unit that couldn't go anywhere.

I liked Civ5 and I liked BE. I doubt I could get into another historic game. I hope they do something different or extend the timeline out into outer space. Start as a settler on earth and end up controlling a galaxy would be awesome.

Sadly I've played so little of the last two games even though I like the look of them both. Just been so busy lately with other ones that are more time sensitive.

well, they did that long ago with Alpha Centauri (well, new planet colonization--not the Galaxy). I suppose BE is supposed to be this idea, but it fell flat, apparently.

I like the idea of a Meier galaxy/solar system Civ game, but there are tons of those out there and I wonder if a new branded under the Civ franchise would offer anything truly new?

for Civ 5...I played it soon after release and never really liked it. I think I have 5 hours total PT into it. Just never could get into the new mechanics, hexes, the "Buy this tile with gold!" button and all that. I always hear that it improved greatly with ex packs, and I sometimes consider picking those up when on sale, but I never do. I think the reality is sinking in that I just don't have much interest in these type of games anymore.
