Well, I am. And not because I have any interest in PS3 games. Sony really got lucky with this one.

I have both and think it is a shame. I really like HD-DVD better and would buy HD-DVD over Blu-Ray when given the choice.

Isn't the PS3 incompatible with the new BD+ encryption standard or something? I seem to remember threads about people bitching that their PS3 isn't playing new discs and Sony stating that's too bad, they're not doing firmware updates or the like.

no, all BD+ disks I've gotten work fine in the PS3 not only that the PS3 is the only future-proof blu-ray player out there.

the beauty of software based bd players the only thing that would be an issue is maybe 4 layer+ disks?

They have already done several firmware updates since release to upgrade Blu-Ray feature set

I'd be more likely to buy a 360 + BD add-on if there ever if one. Just don't care about the PS3's lineup.

Ah, okay then.

I can't afford a PS3, a high def tv, or blu ray movies.
I'm in the same boat. Since I don't have the cash that would be required for the level of equipment I'd want and to replace large portions of my already large movie collection, I really haven't kept tabs on the technology outside of who seems to be winning support.

sad, but probably. I have a Toshiba A2 already, with like 25 or so HD's. Not that invested, but enough that it upsets me.

I liked HD better, too

Planned on getting a PS3 anyways.. but I'm happy that I didn't get the HD add-on for my 360 now.

Metal Gear Solid 4

Gran Turismo 5
Killzone 2
Resistance 2
Little Big Planet
Final Fantasy XIII

and that's only the exclusives. Developers are getting the hang of multi-platform games and there will be quite a few killer sellers that are on both consoles.
this year is gonna be a year a lot of people hop onto the PS3 wagon. Sales have been picking up with the momentum of BD and smoother moves by Sony in general.

The news on TV tonight had a few-seconds-long segment declaring that the war was over, and that BluRay won; it also said that Toshiba revealed that they are going to cease production of the HD-DVD players.

I've personally been interested in buying a PS3 for a while now... both because of BluRay and because there are a couple of games for it I want to check out (and I'm not a gamer!).

Blu-Ray won? I don't think so. HD DVD may have lost but BD players and titles are still too expensive for the average buyer. Both will be history within two years.

Is this officially the first time a Sony format didn't lose a war?
