ps3 is no where near that.

The way see it, I get a console and a Blu-ray player for $355+ tax (after GC, coupon). Or I could spend $349 on an Xbox 360 Premium then another $250+ on a Blu-ray player.

That being said, after seeing movies in full HD glory on my HD DVD player, I have a hard time going back to standard def movies.

I'm going for the Ps3, I'm interested in the gaming library and to see what it will do for my psp.

that beign said I probably won't do it for one or two more years and by then standalone players may be more attractive. We'll see I guess

i don't want a console, so either way is moot.

Sorry but I don't see Sony licensing their BD player for a rival console. I mean thats the PS3s only real selling point. The 360 blows the PS3 out of the water in content and quality games.

The PS3 blows the 360 out of the water in quality of hardware.

In all honesty, the PS3 has a decent lineup of games, and the future looks fantastic as far as games come. Sure, the 360 still trumps the PS3 in the games area (depending on what you want to play), but "blowing it out of the water" is a huge overstatement currently.

Anyways, I'm glad Blu-Ray "won"...not because I want to back Sony, and not because I already own a PS3. It just offered more than HD-DVD. More support, more space, etc. The only thing HD-DVD had going for it was a lower price, but it will all even out over time (and the gap was closing already). Why support a technically (on paper) inferior product (aside from price and certain exclusive titles)?

The PS3 theoretically blows the 360 out of the water. The Cell processor is a load of crap, that of course, Sony fanboys fall for hook, line, and sinker. Nobody's been able to utilize it's "AWESOMENESS!one!!1" and make a game that's leaps and bounds ahead of the 360 because it's a complicated convoluted piece of hardware to program for.

Remember the PS2? Emotion Engine? Render Toy Story 2 in real time? Ring any bells? Yeah, the GameCube had better graphics, and the Dreamcast arguably did in most scenarios.

HD-DVD was the more consumer friendly format, PERIOD. Blu-Ray had the content, that's what mattered in the end.

Me too, look for the new firmware due out Monday. It will fix the low LFE problem!

I will get a PS3 once the new Gran Turismo is out.

Been rocking both XBox 360 w/HD DVD and PS3 for over a year now. Looking for some discount HD DVD titles soon.

I went through the movies I had bought so far, and found that I had more BR movies than HD DVD.

Not on purpose....it's just of the movies I was interested in enough to pay 25-30 bucks for, there happened to be more of them on Blu Ray to this point.

I may well get a BR for the 360 when they come out, and move the PS3 to my bedroom.

Where's the pohlage? And no, I'm not going to buy a PS3. I don't have enough room in the entertainment center for one.

with the demise of HD-DVD, i'm now looking at getting a ps3.
i have some questions for fellow ps3 owners.

ps3 will be hard wired to my network via 1000Tx, so no wi-fi.
can a ps3 play divx files stored on a cd or dvd?
can a ps3 play divx/mp3 files stored on a usb flash drive?

using WMP11 as a uPNP client, can I stream divx/mp3 files from my basement desktop to my plasma upstairs through the PS3?

as you can tell, streaming divx is of primary importance to me.

also, what would be some of the forums to visit for streaming options for the ps3?
i realize most of the links will be blocked from work, but I could go home and surf a bit
Thanks

Not sure about cd/dvd/usb but the Ps3 can play DivX files now. Curious to the answer to this one since I just got a Ps3 myself.

yes, you can stream from your pc to ps3 using DLNA in WMP11

Heh I bought one the day the format war was officially over. I'm loving it so far, except for having to use the godawful controller to control the thing.

No Problem, just snip off the first knuckle on every finger (or second one if you have large hands) and it works SUPER! Your new scratch proof b00-way ninja wheel shurikens should work well for this task.

But at least the inferior, immature format won! :gift: That's the important thing!

(counts yen from the amazing royalties gained from the demise of HD and hides it under piles of discarded HD-DVDs and HD players so no one will find them.)

Save yourself and buy the $25 BT Remote. What a dolt you will look like watching a movie with friends when you're trying to control it with the Six-Axis.
