Who plans on holding out till mid month for the new GTS's and HD 3870XT's?

Until a few days ago I was almost certainly going to get one of these, but the atrocious performance of the Crysis demo on the top current cards is now making me have second thoughts. Maybe I should just get a cheaper GT and upgrade again in six months when the next gen cards come out.

Ive got the same thoughts going through my head. Being as I sold my x1900xt and have an x300 right now. I am really considering the GT, but the benchmarks of Crysis performance make me want to cry... I am thinking its going to be best to just grab a GT to tide me over to the next big cards are released.

The other part that makes me think I should just go GT for now is my PSU. I don't know if my current 460 watt (only 25A on the 12v rail) will handle the 3870 or next GTS along side my OCed Q6600...

Good point. My power supply is worse; it is only a Antec 430w NeoPower. Hopefully that should be enough to run the 8800gt.

Well im holding off for a few weeks 2 reasons

1 the ATI might be faster

2 The 8800GT is getting more expensive by the minute.

i missed this at the very end until recently:

Cevat Yerli: Very, very well. Stay tuned for more on this. In mid November you will see the new NVidia cards. They are a blast for Crysis and really, really very good deals.
:Q

Yerli is quite aware of the 8800GT. Evidently something better than the GT is coming Mid-November ... from nvidia ... forget waiting for AMD ... IF they somehow manage to beat nvidia, it is a 'plus'

perhaps these new cards are what CryTek was showcasing Crysis demos with

The 8800GT's were coming out in mid november until a few weeks ago - it's quite possible he means the 8800GT.

Personally I am waiting for the dual 8800GT card or Ati equivelent (which ever is faster) due out at the start of next year as far as I know.

1) Yerli's review was 4 days ago

2) He is in the "know" as dev for twiimtbp Crysis and no doubt has the "new GTX" to showcase it on

3) He mentions more than one card - cards

I'll either go GTS SLI as people firesale their GTS to get GT, go GT SLI by firesaling my own GTS, orr buy a new revised GTS, if one will actually be produced, and SLI it with my current GTS (640).

Those are the only real options in my opinion if you already have a GTS.

Bottom line for 8X series owners at this point is that Crysis won't be playable with most eyecandy turned on unless you have SLI.

The only question is which option makes the most sense in terms of price and performance. A revised GTS will likely cost $300 to $350. Buying two GTs costs $500. But if one can sell an existing GTS 640 for about $200, then the GTs are effectively $300, though better cooling will be needed aftermarket. So who knows.

Yeah for me the difference between my GTS 640 and a GT isn't enough to warrant dropping many hundreds of dollars, but if I sell my GTS 640 very soon on craigslist for like 200 I can effectively pick up a GT for $50. The performance increase is definitely worth $50.

I worry about waiting too long and missing my window for reaping the ROI for my GTS. Then again, you see TONS of way-overpriced stuff on craigslist that people undoubtedly buy. Maybe we'll be OK for a while yet.

I did bite on the 8800GT no games is driving me nuts on the x300. I got an evga card. If the new GTS performs as well as some are saying I think I will use the step up program. We'll see in about two weeks!

Lol, unfortunately SLI doesn't seem to be working well in Crysis right now. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's assuming ATI cards will make it into retail, something that ATI has been struggling with during the past two years.
