...now that RC5-64 has finished?

I'm not going to try to pimp any one project (and i hope others won't either), am just interested in the firepower coming to all the TA projects.

Let me know if you want any other projects added to the poll

To be perfectly honest if SETI finished now, I'd have no idea where to go, or if I wanted to. Give people a chance to recover!

ECCp & UD, UD runs fairly well alongside another DC project - so I have it installed on all my rigs as well

RC5 just ended, so to tell you the truth, I really don't know.

My questions:

Which project runs well in the background on a Windows XP/2K/9X desktop? You know, like a service. Something with a stable client. Had 9 P4s and 11 Celeron/PII/PIIIs from work dedicated to RC5.

Which project takes advantage of dual processors? Currently running a dual slot1 866 at home. Have two Acorp boards with two 1 GHz PIIIs and two additional 866 MHz CPUs.

Give me some ideas.

Thanks.

Interesting poll, im sure the firepower will be appreciated no matter what project they choose, if any.

I'll keep on with SETI for now, as NWM said, there's races to be won!

I may be open to helping out some other projects in the future though.

Seti runs very well as a background service. There are several different service installs floating around which make it very easy to install the service.

I know I'm going to sound Seti biased here but I know that SetiDriver (a Seti add-on) makes it very easy to use dual processors.

Whichever route you decide to go, the Teams benefitting from the added fire-power will certainly benefit!

I'm helping the ECCp-109 TeAm right now, but after that I'm not sure what I'll do. If I have a 2nd phone line installed and if my server's autodial problems are fixed, or if I have cable (hopefully ), I'll probably go with Folding@Home. Otherwise, I may go back to the SETI project, considering that it is much less dependent upon an always-available network connection than Folding@Home is.

I run Distributed Folding. We have about 20 folders and could certainly use some help if any of you are so inclined.

(runs great as a service with 2000/XP)

If DF works well with a dialup connection, it might just be exactly what I'm looking for.

/me goes off to STFW. ;-)

SETI is the only one I know is being run as a service ATM. But it has the infamous Outlook bug. So if you're using Outlook for mail, you should test carefully before running SETI. ECCp could easily be run as a service, I think, but I can't recall if anyone has done it yet. Both should be stable clients.

I can't think of a project that doesn't, if you run two clients at once. SETI isn't as efficient with two instances, but one SETI with one ECCp, OGR, or other non-memory-intensive client works great!

I posted I'll be doing SETI, but I've also got one machine on ECCp, and one that should switch to OGR any second now.

Um, you must have missed the post above..... DF installs as a service (if you set up for that option) for 2000 and XP

Yeah, it easily sets up for Dial-up. It'll crunch it's little heart out until you are ready to upload.

If you decide you are interested, just PM me and I'll be glad to get ya going. (Nothing to it)

That would be awesome if we could get some more people on the DF team.

Like Insidious says DF runs terrific as a service in Windows 2000/XP. Running on dial-up really requires manual uploads but works great without uploading for periods as long as you upload within 24 hours after they switch to a new structure which happens about once a week on average.

DF (distributed folding) could always use a few more comps.

The TeAm just made the top 20!

Runs great, and their programmers are super responsive.

ECCp can most definately be run as a service, in 2k, nt, xp, using a program called FireDaemon

Why run somebody else's project when you can make your own? :Q Which is exactly what I am doing, however I won't tell you the specifics until it is past the beta test phase (which it is in now, but I have no idea if/when I will have the infrastructure ready for mass deployment). I do not plan to post more on this subject here, but I am sure at least one of the beta testers who belong to this forum will be more than happy to announce the website when it becomes available.

The general aspects of the project are: it is *currently* written in 100% Java for cross-platform deployment, it features a multi-threaded client for all those SMP addicts, a multi-threaded proxy so it can handle multiple client connects WHILE communicating with it's designated server, a hacker thwarter, multiple ways to remove a trojan install, autoupdate, self-cleaning code (in case the project ends (unlikely) or the project folds), a stataholics dream in a log file to analyse from the proxy, and a plethora of stats to be at the main site.

Right now I am looking for a professional web developer who can use either ASP, JSP, or cgi-bins to access a dbase.

This project was written by a stataholic for a stataholic, so it is in a CLI interface.

Yep, I did miss the above post. I have downloaded DF, but haven't installed it yet. I think I'll go home and try DF after the rain stops and I can get my Linux box interfacing with my SetiQ...

PF, you left out PHP! I did PHP3 for DB class, but it's been a year.

I seem to recall tales of a user around here, before either of us joined, who tried to get the TeAm to do his project, but it turned out to actually be cracking someone's code without their permission or something. :Q So you should probably clear up exactly what it is you're doing before you unleash this thing on the world/TeAm.

PF, I was going to write my own DC project, but I doubt i'd have the programming skills for it Sounds like you're a man with a plan

If you do release one, we all want it!

And I'm a SETI man, although I sometimes switch to ECCp-109 every now and then.
