LOL is this what Apple fans actually believe!?

I have an Apple-centric home and I don't think that. I think the iPhone X design is great and I have reasons for preferring iOS, but I'm not under the notion that Apple is the best at everything or that there aren't great designs elsewhere. I'd love to have an S9 if I weren't an iOS guy... well, so long as I could tolerate the months-long waits for OS upgrades.

The real issue isn't whether someone is an Apple or Google fan; it's when someone wraps their self-worth around those companies so tightly that they can't let themselves think of the brand as less than perfect.

I can't imagine spending over $300 for a phone. What are my options in 2018? Currently using a motox pure 2015 with no issue. Stay the course?

Probably the next Moto G phone (G6) when it's announced.

As it stands, I can easily imagine spending over $300 for a phone. Your phone is probably the most important piece of tech in your life -- it's always with you, and it handles everything from calls to navigation to smart home control to taking pictures. Why wouldn't you invest in it?

After reading for months that the s9+ would cost $1000+ I decided to wait for the next gen phone. But now I can actually get the S9+ for less than I paid for my s8+ I will probably upgrade.
For those that don't know you can get the unlocked s9+ for ~$730 with .edu or employer discount and cheapie phone trade in.

I'm getting mine for 540 after I give in an s7 that's just laying around.

I picked up a Moto G5+ from black friday for $180. This was an upgrade from an iPhone 4s. I have an appreciation for technology however really use my phone as a phone and interfacing with my Mi fit. Really miss the form factor of the smaller iPhone but the lag really started becoming a problem.

Because the $300 phone does everything I need.
Diminishing returns after that point.
A phone is very important, but you don't need to blow $1000 when $300 is more than GOOD ENOUGH

Just started using the note and like playing with the pen so not looking to upgrade anytime soon. More interesting in hereing about the stero speakers than anything else. Coming from a blackberry, sound has been a noticeable backstep.

Spending $700 on a phone is INSANE,
when you can get a phone for $300 that is probably 90% as good.

You've already posted your opinion.
If you don't want to buy one,
then let others who might
continue their discussion without
the thread being derailed.

An important distinction, and I believe you're aware of this: more than good enough for you.

We all have varying demands and tastes, and a $300 phone that's fine for you may not cut the mustard for someone else. For example, I use my phone for both work and pleasure, and I seriously value both mobile photography as well as overall performance. Damn straight I'm going to spend more than $300 on my phone; what I spend there help me get work done more efficiently and saves me from having to buy a dedicated camera. I don't expect you to drop more than $300 if you aren't a shutterbug and aren't particularly demanding; just know where I'm coming from.

Totally hear you.
But, if pics are your job, I can see going for the new f/1.7 cameras.
My Pure 2015 has f/2.0, which is pretty great.
Still a tiny sensor, so for serious pics, I use my DSLR.

It should also be noted that with f/1.5, the Galaxy S9's lens has the widest aperture ever seen on a phone. In recent years, phone makers have been topping one another by making the apertures of their lenses wider. A wider aperture corresponds to a lower f-stop number. The last two generations of iPhones($1,099.99 at Best Buy), including the iPhone X, have an aperture of f/1.8. Last year's Galaxy S8 ($597.42 at Amazon.com) had an aperture of f/1.7. And until the launch of the S9, the phone with the fastest lens was the LG V30 ($749.99 at Best Buy) which had a crazy wide aperture of f/1.6.

This is just silly talk. We all have different preferences and needs. We all make different money, and have our vices. Your "logic" can be transferred to about anything we buy. A car gets you from pint A to point B. Some people are fine with a 1993 Honda Civic. Me? I'm driving a newer Maserati. Why? Because I want to. Both get us to point B, but its not just about getting to the destination, it can be about how you get there.

For a more local example, some people play PC games on a $500 Dell. A lot here don't, and we like higher end components.

Maserati is an overpriced logo.
But, I'll go so far as to say the $300 phone is just as good as your $1000 phone.
Yes, I said it. I bet most can't even tell the difference.

I tried to ask nicely before,
yet here we are again.

Stop thread-crapping.

Flagship Phones are naturally getting more expensive. These devices are becoming so incredibly complex and advanced, that for many of us, the premium is a no brainer.

Due to the RAM discrepancy, the S9+ is absolutely worth it over the S9. Android loves RAM.

Your argument is old. Why buy a $600 video card, if a $200 video card gets you 30fps? Oh maybe because I can run AA/TB, higher a resolution, gsync with in-game options turned up? Something the $200 card cannot. Samsung pay is amazing for me, so is the Gear S3. The Samsung phone is better, I can tell the difference.
There are cheaper alternatives to a lot of things in life. Including yours. Guarantee I can find things that in my opinion you could spend less on. We all have different needs or wants. Get over yourself.

Moto X Pure has 3GB RAM and runs Android 7.0 perfectly.
No need for more RAM
Again for your use case. If you're fine with your phone, then you should just get a low-mid end phone, and be happy. Just stop threadcrapping like the mods have asked you to do.

I just learned about the improved heart rate sensor and doing BP readings. Props to Samsung if they are accurate as a BP monitor. Samsung Pay is awesome. I know they are the only mobile payment system to have a rewards program, but they just devalued points I wish I had used my points.

And get more of the same? No thanks. Phones have become way overrated, I don't even carry mine around anymore, I leave it in the car when I am out and in the bedroom when I am home. That's close enough for me.
I have a Samsung and think it was a step down from my old HTC.
