I see what you did there, and it's ridiculous. All of those things are capable of being made excellent without needing to us a lot of space. Here's the issue: Speakers need to move air to sound good. Speakers inside a cellphone, can't. Until we come up with some kind of way of projecting sound without using magnetic coils coupled to drivers to push sound waves, cellphone speakers are, and will continue to be pure garbage.

If you're consuming media on your phone without an external speaker, or a set of wired or Bluetooth headphones, I feel sorry for your ears. I mean, if you want to continue to assault them with shitty, crackly high-pitched noise from your phone, that's on you, I'm just thankful you use headphones when you're in public.

What you are telling me has nothing to do with the issue at hand, an the issue is, that iPhone speakers are MUCH better than those on ANY Samsung Galaxy phone, including the newest ones available right now. (Despite both being garbage compared to "real" speakers.)

"If you're consuming media on your phone without an external speaker, or a set of wired or Bluetooth headphones, I feel sorry for your ears. That's sort of neither here, nor there... Purely your opinion, which is off course very much welcome. The way I consume media has to do with my personal circumstances. It's just the way things are. But for people like me, phone speakers are important as well as their quality, and volume levels.

Profanity, even when it is quoted from
another user, is not allowed in the

Just stopped at the T-Mobile store and pre-ordered the S9+ phone. I work in the tech field and my customers want to see me using the latest tech phone.

The problem here is that there is no quality. It simply doesn't exist, and it can't exist.

Why not let everyone put their own relative value on a feature? The improved speakers on the S9 look to be an improvement over the S8, even if they're still not good at an absolute level.

We all use the built in speakers to varying degrees so better is always better. At least now the s9 is as good as pretty much any mobile phone excluding the razer phone.

Saying the iPhone speakers are much better goes against every measured test you can find right now - the differences are pretty slight now and seem mostly down to tuning.

I'm not trying to stir the tiny-speakers derail, but just what I think is an interesting observation:

Not long ago I was talking to some younger-gen peeps, and I realized several of them (by their own full admission) had never actually heard music or anything on other than earbuds and crappy speakers. None had owned a decent full sized home stereo, regularly heard decent TV sound (a good receiver/speakers, not the built in ), or used a decent pair of over-ear headphones.

The topic came up around their desire to record and mix music- but the extra challenge as none of them had actually HEARD any music in any fully sonic way most of their lives. It will actually take them some adjusting to hear the full sonic range of a lot of music on decent cans or studio monitors.

Point is: it got me to thinking, more and more I think we're going to see people who think of their cellphone as their "hi-fi stereo" that's as good as anything else (akin to the phone camera that's the equal of anyone's good DSLR) and so we'll probably be hearing more and more about how crap speakers on a cellphone are "awesome". As makers rush to me-too! me-too remove the headphone jack, even thinner strains of BT headphone sound will become the new "awesome!" as well.

I wonder even will future gens even know what decent audio is? 'Yeah, its when I turn the crap speakers in my car up so loud the bass rattles the windows!!" Nope. Not that either.

I think it's really just that the majority of people don't care that much about audio quality (and I consider myself as one of those people). As long as the sound is coming evenly at both my ears (which is an issue with phones that only push out sound from one side/speaker) then I'm good. I don't care that much about music, I watch a whole lot more video on my devices than I do just audio.

That's somewhat overstated -- there's definitely a lot of good music that's mastered properly. The problem, of course, is that a lot of music is aimed at going big, and studios will often master those songs so that everything is loud (so it sounds better on your pack-in earbuds, of course). Ironically, a lot of the dance music I listen to probably sounds better than 'subtler' pop tunes precisely because they have no expectations of making the top 40.

Don't know what the big deal is, 3 options were given and you just choose the one you want.
I wonder if the author had trouble selecting the right color and carrier too and was mystified about the trade in screen.

It is Gordon Kelly, he is a hack. He finds some minor or misleading problem and writes the most overblown story about it.

It is technically a thing, but Samsung lays out the option and it's easily understandable. I just ran through pre-order, and here's what I got at the payment screen:

Thanks for the reply. Trying to figure out the best option for me. I used to just buy the phones outright, but if I do not, it is cheaper if I upgrade every year since its about $35 a month from Verizon. Just making payments is cheaper than buying outright, and trading in after a year. I have been told, once again, that with my old school unlimited plan that I may have to buy outright and if so I will be looking at Samsung.

Has anyone bought directly from Samsung and used on Verizon. I know its unlocked, no problems with Verizon being difficult about it?

I have bought several times directly from samsung, on both tmobile and verizon and neither has given me any issue. verizon was fine.

Galaxy S8's speaker performance is terribad. I do not always have headsets handy when I want to watch videos and have to rely on the phone's speaker, and I do not enjoy the experience at all. I am looking forward to seeing how the S9's speakers fare, especially against the iPhone X.

So, how many people are getting a color besides black?
You know, I am not a fan of the odd-numbered Galaxy S phone's color schemes. I liked the S6 and S8's colors, but I do not like the S7 and S9's colors. They apparently use some sort of tick-tock-esque strategy with colors, in one year with saturated and shinier colors (S6 and S8) and in the next year with subdued and pearl-like colors. Black is sort of an exception, but I am kind of bored of black and was looking for something different. I am not impressive with this year's color options.

I do like the Note 8's bold color options and was sort of hoping they would make their way into the S9's, which did not happen. All things considered I am leaning toward waiting for the Note 9.

My s9 does not sound much different to any other phone speaker. The sound from the top speaker is noticeably quieter than the sound from the bottom speaker.

I have an unexpected S9+ in my hand.. Totally unexpected but I am happy to play with it nonetheless. So far it works just like the S8.
