Hmm, no one seems to have tested the various package disabler apps yet? I need to get rid of this T-Mo spyware.

My initial impression of the S9+ is on the negative side overall. The build quality has deteriorated, exampled by the wobbling power/Bixby buttons and volume rockers. Ergnomics of the phone is also noticeably worse because of the phone's frame not being flush with front and back glasses. Display looks good and color accuracy indeed seems to have improved, but at the cost of brightness. Manually controlled, S9+'s display is a lot dimmer than the S8. And while it is premature to judge the battery performance, but the first couple of hours did not give me confidence like the S8 did last year.

UI performance is good, as it should be for a brand new phone that costs this much $$$. However, the SD845's benchmark numbers are very inconsistent. In Geekbench it scored 2400/8300 for the first run, then the score declined and fluctuated significantly in subsequent runs. In a couple of runs the ST score was barely over 2000.

The saving grace of my first day with the S9+ was HDR playback and the phone's speakers. It handled 1440p/HDR clips (like this one) with aplomb. Coupled with the improved speakers, the viewing experience was fantastic. (The S8 cannot play 1080p/HDR and above without dropping frames.)

Excellent, mine arrives tomorrow. Is there any truth to the rumor that once you activate on sprint, their crapware installs itself?
I have no experience with Sprint, but on AT&T I have been using unlocked phones for many years without any bloat from AT&T slipping in.

P.S. Anyone else with loose buttons (power, volume, and Bixby)? It is driving me crazy and makes me hate the phone.

Trying to get used to the fingerprint scanner placement. After using my s8+ and note 8 for so long I keep putting my fingers on the flash.

Got my GS9+ today to replace my GS7. Much faster, more beautiful, and huge. Need some time to play around with it and find all the fancy features.

I actually prefer the fingerprint sensor on the front so if my phone is sitting on the desk, I can just put my thumb on it and open it up. Now I have to pick it up to use my finger on the back or swipe in my pattern. But that's a minor inconvenience.

Mine is with Verizon and I had a bunch of apps on there that I had to go uninstall. Multiple games, some banking apps, etc.Don't remember the whole list but seemed like 6 or so. I like the S9+. It makes my GS7 seem tiny when I have to refer back to it for something I forgot to copy over.

"Unknown Sources" check for sideloading is gone? I do not see it under "Lock screen and Security."

My buttons are not loose, however I could not get past checking for updates on initial setup. Samsung was really no help. Sending it back and buying it at best buy tomorrow. And I'm out $8 having to buy another screen protector.

The "stereo" speakers are just as unbalanced as the iphones. I say either do speakers front firing Ala pixel 2 or don't do em at all. And the Dolbt ATMOS doesnt work with PowerAmp so that's useless to me as well.

EDIT

Actially, Dolby ATMOS does work in PowerAmp, you have to disable DVC, which I wont do as its much better on.

I received my Lilac Galaxy S9+ yesterday and have had a day to play with it. I've been using the Pixel 2 XL as my primary phone since it came out and have an iPhone X as well to compare with.

I'll start off with the fingerprint sensor. It's better, but still room for improvement. Feels a tad too low on the S9+ (I hear the S9 feels better). I wish the sensor was a little bigger, it's a pretty small target to locate with your finger compared to the Pixel phones. And I still end up smudging up with bottom camera trying to locate the sensor right under it. I feel like the Pixel series nailed it with the larger sensor, circular design, and keeping it away from the camera. But it's still an improved over the S8+ and I find it much more usable than before. Plus there is a plethora of other ways to unlock your phone.

I turned on the Intelligent Scan today and gave it a try. This is definitely improved over the S8+ as well. I wear glasses and before it didn't work so great with them on and forget about trying it in the dark. Happy to report Intelligent Scan works in complete darkness with my glasses on. I'm impressed. I also love that it unlocks the phone and goes straight to the home screen. For some reason the iPhone X makes me swipe up after it unlocks, an annoying extra step in my opinion.

Even the PIN unlock seems better. Always bugged me that on Android I had to click OK after entering my PIN. The S9+ gave me the option to automatically unlock after entering my 4 digit PIN. Not sure if this is new, but first time I've seen it on Android (iPhone has always worked that way that I can remember).

I played around with Samsung's launcher. But then installed the Rootless Pixel Launcher.

This launcher mimics the Pixel 2 look and I felt more at home with it after using the Pixel and Pixel 2 XL for long time now.

I tried out Bixby. Then disabled it.

For some reason Microsoft Outlook notifications were not working the first day. I checked several places and notifications were on everywhere for it. Not sure what was up, but woke up this morning and was getting notifications from Outlook today. All other notifications worked fine right away.

Wish the volume rocker was lower and the Bixby button higher and out of the way.

Screen looks great, plenty bright for me so far. Speakers sound great, much better than the Pixel 2 XL speakers.

I bought a Dbrand skin. Applied it, then realized I was a billionth of a millimeter off and the skin edge rubbed uncomfortably on the left side of the phone. Ugh. Apparently there is no do-overs with skins (I tried). And Dbrand only shipped 1 skin (usually they send two versions of a back cover, but not with my S9+). Their customer service has been really good to me in the past, so I might see if they'll do anything for me.

For now, I bought the official Samsung Silicone case for $30. It's pricey, but what prompted me to spend the extra money is they have separate cutouts for the cameras, fingerprint sensor, and flash. Most other cases just have one giant ugly cutout for all of them. Aesthetically i think it looks nicer for the camera and flash to have separate cutouts. And functionally, I love the fingerprint sensor having a separate cutout so I don't accidentally finger the camera. Has a nice feel to it as well. I'm happy with the money I spent. Still may get another Dbrand skin when I feel like being more minimal.

I'm pretty happy with the S9+ so far. This will probably replace my Pixel 2 XL. At least until Android P comes out.

@Ravynmagi: How tight are the buttons on your S9+? Are they as tight as they are on the S8/S8+ and the iPhones?

Just did a little button wiggling and massaging. Mine seems pretty close to the S8+, but does seem a tad looser and does make more sound as they wiggle (under normal pushes they don’t make any noise other than the normal click). Not nearly as tight as the buttons on my iPhone X. Can’t say its something I’d notice though or consider a problem for me. Perhaps mine aren’t as loose feeling as yours though.

My S9+ is brighter than my iPhone X with manual brightness. I did notice that after I slide it to max I got a warning about the brightness and after agreeing to the warning, was able to slide it up higher. Testing this indoors at night has left me seeing spots.
