In the future, there will be heating elements under the roads and sidewalks that can melt the snow when needed.

I want that so bad for my driveway. There is a high value housing development that was recently installed a couple of towns over from me, and apparently many of those houses have this. Never have to use a snowblower again :awe:

its pretty much finished here.

However, Highway 401 in Toronto is seriously messed up. Traffic collisions and stuck vehicles are everywhere there.

It's been non stop all day. They're coming in as fast as I can plug them into the website. Just a shitty drive in general despite the crashes. I'm not quite sure how I got in today. None of the roads were ploughed.

I hear ya.

We got about 6" to 8" of snow. Still some light snow coming down.

All elementary and high schools were closed here today.

City buses are getting stuck on side streets here due to lack of plowing.

Just plain unpleasant today.

My kid just drove home from work and said it was the most horrifying drive he's ever experienced. Said there were a lot of crazies out going way too fast.

Be careful, all.

I got put in Twitter jail because I was tweeting so many crashes. Bastardos.

Lots of people getting stuck on the highway ramps. Especially the tractor trailers. Ploughs didn't go a good job of clearing them. People were actually getting out of their cars and shovelling the ramps by hand to get moving again.

So what happens to people who work at utilities or hospitals or some other place that has to be running 24/7?

It's a ban on non-essential travel.

The point is not to figure out how to come down hard on people; it’s to emphasize that non-essential travel on the roads cease,” said Patrick. “We have to have as many people off the roads as possible.

Violating the travel ban, he said, could incur a penalty of a year in jail and a $500 fine.

Was about to post about the MTO pics of people shovelling the off ramps in T.O. Never seen anything like that. We are about half an hour southwest of London and didn't get much at all in the country.

It's getting pretty crazy out there...coming down sideways. We're forecasted for 37 inches!

At my wife's hospital if there's a good risk of a major storm they'll first offer people a chance to be boarded overnight at a hotel near the facility and send out trucks to shuttle workers back and forth. If there's not enough volunteers then it's a hard lockdown on staff and whoever is in there is stuck there.

we didn't get a ton of snow, but shoveling it was fucking exhausting because it was so heavy with the slush mixed in.

Talk about @ssholes on the road. Yesterday when the snow started getting pretty heavy, one guy seemed in a rush. He was tailgating me and then rushed past me, only to be stuck behind the car in front of me.

So he pulled up to within about 6 feet of that car, and would periodically fishtail but would maintain that speed and distance from that car.

It looked like a rear wheel drive car, but I swear it looked like he was fishtailing on purpose, just to get the car in front of him to move. And even if he wasn't, who the hell fishtails but intentionally maintains a very close tailgate at the same time? It was like that for something like half a km before he finally turned onto a side street.

I had never seen anyone do that before.

I looked into it superficially. It's 5-digit $ dollars to install, and for a small driveway it's probably about $20 electricity per use for a small snowfall. People say that average cost for use per winter in the northern US is in the low 4-digit $ range every year.

It makes more sense to pay a snow removal company. However, I just use a crappy electric snowblower and a shovel.

What a crappy prediction.

They said it's gonna snow 8-10" at least for NYC. It may be early now, but I don't see suddenly big powder snow falling.

It's just lots of dust snow and wind, barely accumulating.

Crap. Went out at 7pm to shovel and there was 6-7 inches. Then went out at 10pm and it's really coming down now, another 6-7 inches. I'm guessing at least another foot when I wake up in the morning.

300,000 in MA without power, mostly down on the south shore and cape.
