Not really. 538 gave trump better odds than most others. They went into the election giving him 28% chance of winning. Huffingtonpost gave him a 1.5% chance of winning.
It looks to me like 538 was off, but not massively.
This thread was about why Hillary lost, and the reasons are rational and emotional. That you have problems with that does not make you more intelligent or rational. In fact it makes you look foolish and you bring nothing to the discussion. Rational and unenlightened scorn expressed in your pedantic way is not impressive.
What do you think it was?
Personally I don't think its Trump getting the racists out.. they were out in force against Obama.
I just think Hillary was too establishment and stealing Bernie out of his win came back to haunt her. Wrong candidate for this cycle.
Do you think Bernie would have beaten Trump? I think so.. looking at the primary.. all the blue states she lost tonight went for Bernie so it might have been resentment for her more so than love for Trump.
But as always, what do you guys think?
Every study and survey on the matter put racial resentment as the priority for trump fans (even above his primary challengers), and that metric is probably the best predictor of party affiliation these days. Frankly it's hard to dispute that his movement was based around what he was saying about the muslims and mexicans or such, again in contrast to even his primary foes.
Econ usually comes second as something they claim to, but the most detailed study of trump supporters by gallop found they general have high-ish incomes averaging >70k, so that can't be it.
So by the process of elimination, it's not hard to figure what really matters. Conservatives are right in that the media and educators suppress white nationalism (arguably for good reason), but the reality remains that this election set us straight far as what motivates more americans.
This had as little to do with ideology as a political election can. Clinton represented the traditional political dynastic class, privleged and elite and enjoying it. Trump was the quintessential outsider shaking up the system. People voted to shake up the system because they were tired of political elites looking down their noses at them. Plain and simple. Would have worked the same way if it was Jeb Bush vs Bernie Sanders: Bush would have lost because Bernie was an outsider shaking up the system, and a Bush is the same sort of privliged political elite as a Clinton is.
A minority of Australian bogans -> low socioeconomic, uneducated and low skilled workers. Your average Ameritard is our minority.Who rationally[sic] voted in Pauline Hanson and the other One Party members?
All my peers in macroeconomics class are laughing at how stupid and naive the average American is. Trump is a moron as are his followers. Let's hope you idiots don't start the next Great Depression or World War 3 and drag Australia and NZ with you, but I wouldn't put it past you guys seeing as how you elected a clown as your president...
Yes, but his victory is not a landslide as others pointed out. It looks like they got about the same popular whereas I think they had him up 3. But nate also said just a few days ago trump is within a typical polling error of victory. As I recall most of their predictions foresaw either a large Clinton victory or a very narrow Trump win. A lot of other people did much worse.
HAHAHAHAHA Hillary did not lose because she is too honest. Believe me.Lastly, she was too honest. For example, when she said that our current energy policies and her energy policies have/would put out coal workers. She was being brutally honest and it cost her.
Yeah that's complete bullshit. You want to know how I know that's bullshit? Because pretty much every incumbent won reelection. The American people gave the party that already had the house, the senate, and a majority of local and state governments, the presidency and now the supreme court. They clearly voted for the establishment and they voted for the one guy who would rubber stamp their agenda.
The Repubs in Congress didn't do anything either. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall any serious legislation the Repubs introduced during Obama's two terms that dealt with closing the borders, or hunting down all of the illegals and deporting them wholesale, etc.tynopik said:Obama's ignored the will of the people on immigration and paid the price
If anything, the Repubs in Congress sure as hell made a whole lot of noise about it, but that's about it.

?
Then Bill made the comment about regular rednecks.I kinda thought she lost when she dropped that incredibly stupid statement about deplorables. You do not do that, the candidate is fair game, policies are fair game, supporters are not. I thought that was just an incredibly short sighted thing to say, and I believe there's record on this forum of me saying that as well, right after she said it.
If you alienate 1/4 of the country, chances are you're upsetting a lot more. Fucking stupid, stupid, stupid thing to say.
Could be since no red blooded American male can resist a catch phrase like "grab them by the pussy" can they? The fact the big religion backed this horse makes me want to puke. She had no bumper sticker type slogan that could sum up the reason to vote for her.
Reading your posts here, I think you should seriously consider re-enrolling back into 9th grade... you're in no position to hand out your ill-informed blanket statements judging by what you've commented in this subforum. This is why Hilary lost. People like this.
