Got mine yesterday. It's my first smartphone, so I'm still just getting used to the idea of swiping at things to make actions happen. I'll load up some apps this weekend, get things more customized and go from there. But I have to say, the idea that I can have a device that is more powerful than a computer I ran a decade ago that fits comfortably in my pocket for less than $200 is mind-boggling. The screen is good, it plays games, it's reasonably easy to navigate in even for a complete phone n00b like myself, it has hilariously incorrect predictive text... what more could you ask for? I'm hugely impressed.

Funny. I'm in the same boat as you. Been a huge computer home-hobbyist gamer since @ 1992. This will soon be my first foray into the smartphone world. Honestly, I can't believe how expensive the smartphone pay plans are. This is why I believe I'm going to start with the T-Mobile/Walmart prepaid plan with the Samsung S3.

Wonder which unlocked version I should get, the T-Mobile or the International...

Oh, BTW, noob question here, does the S3 have free Wi-Fi calling?

As you can see, however, regardless of whether buttons were moved or not, the overall size of the SIII is much larger than the SII. While it may be an excellent smartphone, it's just too big now for me anyway. SII is as big as I can care to go. Even a little smaller. But you know, to each his own.

There's not that big a difference in size. If hold both phones together face to face yes the S3 is bigger but it's not by much and it's mostly the different shape of the s3.

Pretty sure wifi calling doesn't work on prepaid plans, only postpaid.

It IS by much. Because If I can barely get my GSII in and out of even my carpenter pants with biggish pockets, well, nuff said.

Whatever you say brother. My point remains. A smartphone (GSIII) that is bigger than a smartphone (GSII) that is already to big.

Its 4mm of width and 10mm of height, and the height is mostly in the curve. I don't think either of those counts as "much larger".

What if the sgs4 will add 4mm to the width and 10mm to the height, then what? Can you actually pull down the notification bar or touch the outer top corner with your thumb with ease? Using these bigass phones single handedly is becoming a pita.

I can with ease.

LOL at all these people telling us "its not that much bigger".
How are you going to change our mind on "what is big ?"
If you think 4.8" is fine than thats your preference.
When we say 4.8" is too big for us, don't try and convince us that "well 4.8" is not that much bigger than 4.3"

A 10" smartphone isn't that big. It's only a little bigger than a 9" which is only a little bigger than an 8" which is only a little bigger than a 7"....6",5",4" etc.

Get bigger pants and normal hands if you can't hold a 10" smartphone which is clearly only a little bigger than a 4".

that's pretty much what everyone's been saying

The SGS3 is 16% larger than the SGS2 in surface area which is only 5% bigger than the SGS1, which is 13% larger than the Motorola DROID.

It adds up.

You're point was that the S3 was "much larger" than the S2, it's bigger but certainly not "much larger".

What? I'm not saying it's not too big for you, that's for you to decide. I'm saying the S3 is clearly not "much larger" than the S2.

Guys, alright already with the size...

Though the only way to get the sgs3 phone with the T-Mobile/WalMart $30/month prepaid call/text/data card is unlocked from them or a 3rd party like Negri Electronics, is this the least expensive way to have this phone with a low cost plan when you average the total cost over 2-3 years?

Thanks for helping this 'noob' out...

It is much larger. 4mm wider and 10mm taller is a HUGE increase on an already very large smartphone.

Don't you think? Apparently not. LOL. If it can barely fit into pockets now (GSII), well, you fill in the rest.

Well, when you get a guy coming in saying the phone isn't that much bigger, but really is, it's a problem. Especially when someone is asking how the GSIII is. You want honest, genuine answers.

IT sounds like it. 30 buck per month for that sounds cheap. My plan is unlimited text and data with 1500minutes per month family plan and costs a little over 50 bucks per month for just my phone (breaking it down).

Would you get the unlocked International version of the sgs3 from 3rd party or one from T-Mo?

Size is all relative. Someone with large hands probably doesnt think a 4,8 inch phone is too big. But an iPhone 4 might actually be too small and someone with small hand probably thinks vice versa

Regardless this is a business. If nobody wanted big phones, OEMs would stop selling them. Given that S3 has been selling twice as fast as S2 it seems like the majority of Android buyers want a large screen.

I wouldn't call the GS2 very large or even large, honestly the screen is a little smaller than what I would like.

I thought the GS3 was too large at first but I've pretty much gotten used to it. I'd prefer a 4.3" phone personally but now we don't have much inbetween 3.5" and 4.8".

Coming from a droid X, I feel like the galaxy S3 is lighter thinner and easier to carry around. The overall surface is larger for sure but it fits in my pocket more comfortably and easily. If you have a problem carrying around a S3 you will probably have problems carrying around any other phone.
