That just sounds like a made up excuse. The pentile is literally smaller than a biological eye can can physically see at normal viewing distance. Your eye simply does not have the visual acuity to make it out.

You're going cross eyed because you're trying to force your brain to focus on something thats not there.

I held the SGS3 and htc EVO 4G lte side by side and the EVO was smoother/clearer. The SGS3 looked like every pixel had a halo effect.

I think I've been able to squash the wifi notification with very little effort.

There's two settings right in WiFi; one says "Notify me when launching high data useage apps.....notify me when available". Under the advanced area there's "auto connect when launching.....when Wi-Fi is off."

Unchecking both of these has eliminated the notification for me anyway. I've rooted the phone but its otherwise unaltered as far as this issue is concerned.

This doesn't work for Verizon. Verizon removed both menu options. You need a rooted phone to remove the notifications for both of those using a sql editor.

I'm not sure what how I managed to do it but I have no notifications and I did not have to resort to an SQL editor.

However, I rooted my wife's phone the same way and she still has the notification? Makes no sense to me.

Did you accidentally turn on wifi?

I would love to be able to turn off that notification without resorting to sqledit, and I'm sure the legions of unrooted users would too. Just to double check, you're both on verizon?

LOL. No, its definitely off. Who knows what I did. Both are Verizon phones; ordered together. I rooted mine on Tuesday, wife's on Wednesday. Same method. I really cannot figure out what I did differently.

I Def see the pentile too. I don't like the screen as much as the lcd on my Rezound, and the hox is better than that. While the blacks are rich, the colors are too yellow and whites look like linen. Great screen regardless, but the htcs are better.

The s3 is been fantastic on battery life. The rez did have a much stronger antenna. Really hard getting those dropped calls and data drops where i didnt before. However the s3 isnt bad, but avg on reception str. The motos or samsungs i had were not better. Its liveable.

The main gripe left is the stupid blue tooth logic. Wont send audio to bt headset if 3.5mm jack is plugged. REALLY annoying if you stream through an aux jack and get a phone call on the bt headset and the audio wont switch. The Charge I had did tha., and i hated the phone the brief time i had it.

Overall, more i use the phone the more i like it.

Some people are more sensitive to screen than others. For me, the pentile makes me go cross eyed.

I looked at a non pentile screen and the double vision strain went away.

Sounds like pure BS to me.

I have the Galaxy S II and as it is it's just a scootch too big. Difficult to get in and out of pocket especially when I have the protective case on it. At 4.3", I'd say that is my limit for smartphone size. I actually wouldn't mind a slightly smaller screen. Perhaps 4.0 or 4.1".
The GS III would be over the top for me. Too big. At 4.8" it's bordering on micro tablet size. Galaxy Note "ish" which is 5.3"

For a smartphone, it isn't really necessary to go bigger. Just better. The higher res screen would be nice though.

Doesn't the .5" difference account for the difference between hardkeys on the SII vs softkeys on SIII? The overall package size of the phone doesn't appear to be much different.

Would you like a side by side vid?

I don't support nor disagree with anything the people in the videos say. I just used these vid links to demonstrate the difference in size between the GSII and GSIII.

My lady got hers a couple of weeks ago and she hates it. She says she just wants her Blackberry back. So sad.

Coming from a Blackberry 9330, going to a GSII. Going back to a blackberry for me would be like sticking needles in my eyes.

I just saw the dimensions of the Samsung SII phone which I guess is bigger than the standard SII. Moving the buttons to the screen does allow for a much bigger viable area however.

Got mine yesterday. It's my first smartphone, so I'm still just getting used to the idea of swiping at things to make actions happen. I'll load up some apps this weekend, get things more customized and go from there. But I have to say, the idea that I can have a device that is more powerful than a computer I ran a decade ago that fits comfortably in my pocket for less than $200 is mind-boggling. The screen is good, it plays games, it's reasonably easy to navigate in even for a complete phone n00b like myself, it has hilariously incorrect predictive text... what more could you ask for? I'm hugely impressed.

As you can see, however, regardless of whether buttons were moved or not, the overall size of the SIII is much larger than the SII. While it may be an excellent smartphone, it's just too big now for me anyway. SII is as big as I can care to go. Even a little smaller. But you know, to each his own.

You may not have much of a choice.
The high-end Android phones keep getting bigger and bigger.
4-4.3" Android phones will soon be regulated to "junk" status....AKA a PoS phone.

Someone may be able to reverse that trend, but I have my doubts.

Looking at my GSII, I don't think it will be regulated to "junk" status anytime soon. And I have plenty of choices. I can go better. I won't go bigger. All makers of smartphones have other options. Also, last gens high end would be this years middle of the road as quad core smartphones emerge. Middle of the road would be dual core. Heck, even my wife's Google Nexus S single core running ICS is an awesome smartphone. There will be plenty of options. Bigger isn't necessarily better. Better is better. (resolution, color reproduction, brightness, CPU power, graphics processor, memory, etc.)

My wife just traded in her old phone (Samsung Fascinate) for a Verizon SGIII and at least to this point it has been a huge disappointment in the battery life department. Maybe it is because the phone is brand new and has been doing some updates, but just this morning it has gone from a full charge at 5:30 to 30% remaining at 10:00. That seems a little extreme to me. If the battery life does not improve I can see us going with the Razor Max instead. I thought my 4S had poor battery life but this thing is on a different level of bad.

So instead thinking about it and seeing if an app has gone rogue, you automatically assume the battery life is crap.

That is my first assumption yes, but I will admit that "apps going rogue" is a term I am not that familiar with as I am not an Android user. Is there an easy place I can go to see if a particular app is using more power than it should be? I was assuming that it was a phone issue because there are almost no apps loaded on the phone yet but I would be more than happy to find I am wrong.

settings->power->battery use (note I have an evo 4g lte so it may be diff on the sg3)

you can press on an app to view more details or on the graph to view to view its awake/radio/screen charts like this:

if you have a lot of awake time you probably have an app with a bad wake lock eating your battery

You can also check her settings to make sure it isn't constantly searching for a bluetooth, wi-fi, or LTE connection. The bluetooth and wifi used to eat my battery on my EVO until I disabled the bluetooth and set the wifi to only connect to my home network. Otherwise those radios are always on at 100% searching and will destroy your battery life. Also, the facebook app has been known to eat phones because they can't code worth a shit on android.

On my International model (Quad core one), I don't notice it, seems like it may be a issue with US variants?
