I do ask for proof. If you are going to use the "overpriced" route, please be sure to back it up with a price comparison that can back it up. If you are going to just say because they do, well, obviously, you fail.

You are welcome to use the "you can't play games on an apple" and that is fine.
apple users know this, and we also know that windows is for playing games. it excels at it, there is no argument if you want to play games, use windows.

Oh, and if you want to talk about their advertising, please spare me and include equal time to the whole Mojave commercial blitz.

I would love to hear why, and see some actual reasons to back it up.

My only gripe with apple right now is the use of glossy screens on the new macbook pro, the matte screen was the best thing apple ever did, and the inclusion of the nvidia 9400/9600 in the mbp. they could have gone with a better gpu. i obviously don't hae them or think they suck for that decision, i jus don't agree with it.

But please, feel free to explain to me why apple sucks if you feel they do.

So from the sounds of it you have heard several perfectly acceptable reasons to not like apple, but like most other apple users (not all) you're so stuck up your own ass about the company that you just brush these reasons off. That's my biggest problem is that you pompous sons of bitches won't leave us alone about it. If we don't like apple products, we don't like apple products. I shouldn't have to explain to the legions of the Steve Jobbs army why I don't like apple computers. Leave me, and the rest of us, the fuck alone. If I KNOW you're an apple user without even seeing you working on your apple that means you decided to mention it out of context, and THAT'S the reason everybody hates you.

Many apple users are annoying, plain and simple. It's threads like this that make me want to punch a lot of you apple users right in the fucking face. Get off you high horse about it, because the truth is nobody gives a fuck what computer you use. Congratulations, you're a Steve Jobs tool, now kindly leave it alone and let us all live in peace.

nice. you must feel manly about right now.

I'm disabled and absolutely require Dragon NaturallySpeaking or at the very least the Vista speech engine for computer control and input. There is nothing comparable on Apple products. And don't mention that POS Dictate.

nice. you must feel manly about right now. you don't know me, and if you did you wouldn't even think half the crap you said. i would expect something better from you, but i guess we all can't win.

you must live in denver.

Do apple keyboards not have shift keys and that's why you can capitalize anything? I feel like I'm talking to a 12 year old, which makes sense given you're using a computer with training wheels.

But see that's the thing, you can't accept that you feel holier than thou about all this crap. You just take my criticism, raise your nose in the air and say "yeah well you're just an ass. You're the only one who thinks that way." No, it's not just me. Are there pompous windows and linux users? Absolutely, but the apple drones seem to be a more collective mass of douchebaggery, so it's hard to ignore it. Be an adult and admit it: You're a stuck-up tool who thinks people want to hear your endless droning about how cool my computer is.

Stuck up Apple users are worse than stuck up religious nuts. You're just as annoying and preachy, but at least the religious nuts don't have commercials.

The imac is the consumer offering as a whole system for the casual user, the mac pro for the professional that needs workstation power. they don't have a mid priced tower because OS X doesn't fit in that niche. I think apple realizes that market is occupied by gamers and enthusiasts that would raher build their own pc and not buy a box already together. Plus, within the apple user base, there is a gap.
everyday users aren't gonna pay for more then a base imac, and people that need a mac for proffesional use aren't going to step down to the imac.

good points. which is why the iMac should be priced some 30% lower than it is. My desk at work replaced an "older" core2 duo iMac (white plastic, I have no idea what these models are) with the newest thinner, silvery one. the older one had 512mb of memory in it.....WTF??? though, it only cost $60 to turn that into 2gb from the campus computer store.

The new one came with 1gb, 2.4ghz core2, ....$1200. ridiculous.

i want to thank those that had some good arguments, there were some good points, and i appreciate those tha took the time to explain their stand.
not so much those who came in here and just said stupid things or want to punch people in the face. some of you have good valid points, and they are fair.

the main thing i see all over the internet is discussions where something will be discussed and then it just pops up. it's no different then amd vs inel, nvidia vs ati, and other things, but it amazes me both sides argue so strongly.

i guess there will probably never be a right answer to any of those, just opinion from users on both sides of the fence.
fair enough.

oh, and gocorps...i would take your opnion with more then a grain of salt if you actually said something other then fuck and punch in face. you're argument isn't really that good.
if you knew me, you wouldn't think of me as an apple elitist or anything like that. i'm all pc and apple. i just wanted to know why people think the way they do.
maybe because i'm sitting up here in the mountains with nothing better to do, maybe because i am curious why people think the way they do.
you know, if you hate posts like this, you didn't have to post in it, you didn't have to post twice, you could have just ignored it and gone about your way.

btw, are you in denver?

seriously, could you please explain to me why the "home" and "end" keys don't work on the keyboard? I'd love to know if there is some kind of fix (that doesn't bring up that goddamn multi-colored wheel every couple of minutes).

It would make my work life so much better.

I configured that for 4GB memory and a 500GB HDD.

Cost? $1,524.00

Rig below, cost? ~1400$ when I built it, probably lower now.

It's outperforms the mac in every way, by a long shot. In every category, w/e test you want, my PC which is cheaper and will outperform the mac. I have a quad-core, a HD4870, which macs couldn't even dream of having until years after release, and a larger HDD.

/thread

Did you build it with everything built into the monitor? That's one big draw of the iMacs. Plus, If you're going to use the building argument, configure it with base stats and add the new memory and HDD yourself. Super easy to do, and nothing you wouldn't do while building your mac. Show me the price of something pre-built (i.e. not something you build yourself) and then we can talk.

$1200 for the mac that way, and If i had cut corners on my build I could have cut the price to that point, with the same core components. And so far as having the parts built into the monitor, I fail to see how having terrible airflow which reduces the ability of my components to perform is a "big draw".

Give me a sec, I'll go configure a prebuilt.

Does yours include an OS?

aside from those issues, i really like the new scrabble keyboard. love the key size and tactile feel. Almost bought one for my desktop at home

....so you're saying the home/end keys are indeed a total waste, and I'd be better off pounding sand than wait for Apple to get off their asses and fix it?

Is there a specific reason why you need a numlock key? It's an old key from back in the day when keyboards didn't have separate arrow keys.

I was going to steer clear of this thread but I think I'll throw in my two cents anyway.

I was a Windows users for many years until I was forced to change to OS X a while back when I started school. I've used both quite a bit, and honestly, both have their good and bad. I very much like OS X for the most part but there are a few things that annoy me, namely that the delete key cannot be used to delete files. I've also found the search feature to be not that good. Additionally, the fact that everything is overpriced annoys me. You said you wanted a comparison, right? Well here it is. A 4GB (2x2GB) RAM kit for my Macbook Pro retails at $300 on the Apple Store website. I bought a RAM kit that is identical for $35, or $15 after I get my rebate. Need proof? Here it is: Apple RAM vs. RAM I bought

Despite the flaws I do like Macs. I've ranted in the past about how things don't "just work", but in reality, they do for the most part. I've never had an easier time installing software, or setting up a network or peripherals. I know there are more than a few people that would say something like, "Macs are for idiots that's why you like them". Am I an idiot because I enjoy ease-of-use and a relatively hands-off operation? I don't think I am. Windows machines, by comparison, CAN be easy to use. They also have great game support, which Macs lack. Like I said before, both Macs and PCs have their ups and downs.

And now, to address the whole Mac culture/Mac users are douchebags argument: Not all Mac users are tools. Get over it. Stop stereotyping and assuming that because someone owns an Apple product other than an iPod, they're automatically annoying and a douchebag. It's simply not true.

I would not say I have a problem with apple/macs but main thing keeping me from buying one is money (I could build a better PC for less money).

Though something that would make me want a mac is if I did video editing a lot then I'd get one specifically for that.

Hmm, you're just talking basic functionality where home and end will bring you to top and bottom of the pages right? If you mean while editing a text field and you want to hit the beginning or end of the text, Command+Up or Command+Down will do that.

I'll be honest, I'm using a MacBook, so I have to use Fn+Left for Home and Fn+Right for End, which is different than the full sized keyboard.

Ahh, understandable. With a little registry hacking, I bet you could get those keystrokes back, but it's probably more hassle than grabbing a non-Apple keyboard.

NO.

Home brings you to the beginning of a line
End brings you to the end of a line. Without them, you hold down the fucking arrow keys to scroll across this loooooooooooooooooooooooooooongass sentence.

PgUp and PgDwn are for page scrolling. .....How can anyone use a keyboard and not utilize these essential functions?

EDIT: oh, I read the rest. so...why should one have to press two keys to get this simple function, when all of these keys can be found on the keyboard? PgUp, PgDwn is on Mac, how is that different from page scroll? what is the point of having Home and End if they have those same primary functions?

Depends on the context of what you're doing. If you're just viewing a webpage, home and end will scroll to the top and bottom. For text, Command+Left and Command+Right will get you the behavior you want.

This might help:
