It's got Windows and allows installing new software, right? I could probably hack something up with AutoIt, maybe using the corner of a small Notepad window as my mouse cursor. :sneaky:

Hey says you can't "modify" the software on it. Arguing semantics here, I could still install new stuff. Just can't update anything. He also didn't say I can't bring my own software. If that's the case, I'd pick machine 1. I can happily spend a year playing SimCity 2000 and TIE Fighter. Failing that, I can always doodle in paint.

Option 2 would be computer 5. I could learn how to use it with just the keyboard. Download some eBooks as someone else said.

Computer #5. I have seen people browse websites faster using the keyboard via developer tools in browser.

I would take up writing and artwork using the food provided.
I suppose if they cut that off my own feces could be flung about as well.

Can you switch between computers, perhaps once a week?

Assume that you could load and run whatever normal software the chosen machine would handle. The point is that you couldn't load anything that would completely bypass the handicap. So, installing games and other mainstream software? Absolutely. Installing a VM, RAMDisk, etc. that magically nullifies all viruses and malware on computer 6? Assume it wouldn't work.

Does this computer have a spindle hard drive or a solid state drive? That startup speed kind of matters here.

Assume SSD - it's a top-of-the-line machine.

What exactly does #7 mean? Do websites also get translated to a random language, or is it just the OS? If it's just the OS it's really no big deal.

Also does the layout of the keyboard change also each day, or is it just a weird configuration that remains constant?

If it's foreign language OS only, and keyboard layout is stable (also assuming this one has a mouse), I would consider #7 over #5.

Hmm, great question. Let's say EVERYTHING, including websites, automatically get translated into the foreign language. Translation software does work, but let's assume it can't automatically detect the source language, so you either have to recognize what it is, or use trial-and-error. The keyboard layout does not change.

Changed #5 to be slightly less appealing. Yes, I know, this skews the poll results. But hey, this is all in fun, right? Well, fun for this guy at least:

Computer 5 sounds fine. Many people already live like that, plus a mouse. It's also quite easily the best choice.

5 or 7.

Probably 7 because I would mainly use the hour to watch pr0n and game. I don't care what language the women moan in. And I don't care what language the game is in.. I could figure it out.

I can work with the old shit so Computer 1 it is for me. I couldn't stand not having a mouse. I've done it before and I got a headace from having to think when to press ALT, CTL and shit. It sucked!

#2... I can kind of stand safemode, so the resolution isn't an absolute killer.

So with computer #1 I can still play games from the 90s, run programs from the 90s, read email, use FTP, etc. I can stream music just fine, video not so much. Yeah. #1, no question.

Number 5 is probably still the best overall but despite 95 sucking balls there were a lot of fun games from that era so its the only other one in contention for me. Web browsing would be nearly impossible though using IE2. I think its going to be even worse than the description implies.

As someone who does malware and rootkit removal for a living I can guarantee you that Computer 6 is totally fixable, despite you suggesting otherwise

Computer 7.

You'll need something to master while you are bored for a year.

You'll come out of the experience knowing braille and several languages. You could translate a misunderstanding between a Chinese man and a Spanish man then volunteer at the local for the blind school in Russian - same day!

A 2 inch screen at a distance that I can focus on it at would take up about as much of my field of view as the monitor I currently have at a normal viewing distance.

This is the most epically nerdy poll of all time.

THIS

But it's a very funny thread. The computer descriptions are horrific.

I'd go number 5 without a mouse.

#1 easy. Lots of good games from that era. Who cares about the crappy internet can only use it for 1 hour anyway!
